just a note on Phaneuf this year.
It looks like Carlyle has attempted to mould him into a defensive D more than an offensive one. It's been a real growth for Phaneuf as a Dman.
Although he pinches once and awhile, we don't see the slap shot as often from the point, we don't see him rushing the puck as often as he passes out of the zone, and we see him playing against top line forwards in shutdown roles. I think a lot of fans are disappointed because they want the 20 goal scorer Phaneuf that drops the mitts every couple games. But this one is far more useful.
As fans, do you prefer Phaneuf at +7 taking on this role? or did you like it more when he played second line pairing against third lines and just slapped it at the net wildly, hitting it once out of every 20 shots? |
