Franson has taken a step back, but he still provides offense to go with his defensive lapses. Cant say that for most of the leafs d men this year.

With franson I considered what we will pau him for the next four years. No doubt nonis will try to resign him at around 4 per year. But, at 2mil, you are correct. Not bad, 4 mil

@4mil Franson is just as good a value as Phaneuf @7.....If Dion contract works than so should 4 for Franson..

He is woeful defensively, doesn't use his size, and is relatively useless at winning battles on the boards. He has a fantastic shot and is our only right handed dman. He's an offensive dman without the puck moving skills or skating ability. For us to give him 4 milly, imo, is a tragic move. Phan9, Reilly and Gardiner should be 3 of our 6 d next year. The other 3 should, at the very minimum, have the ability to play defense.

I'm of the opinion that Dion at $7 will look like a steal in a few years (assuming he maintains his level of play). Franson at $4 is just as good.

Girardi is an UFA, whereas Franson is a RFA, so Girardi will ask for, and get, more.

On a strictly hockey basis, Girardi is far better defensively, whereas Franson has more offensive upside. Considering we lack the former more, Girardi is the better fit.

I just don't think he will be that great for us. I would rather see him walk. To be honest, Liles hasn't played all that bad this year when he's had the chance.
