Girardi is an UFA, whereas Franson is a RFA, so Girardi will ask for, and get, more.

On a strictly hockey basis, Girardi is far better defensively, whereas Franson has more offensive upside. Considering we lack the former more, Girardi is the better fit.

Girardi is good, don't get me wrong....but you also have to factor in that he plays with Mcdonagh who masks a lot of his errors.

Girardi at $5-$6 playing alongside a fraser/ranger or rielly/gardiner would be an absolute disaster imo.

I disagree with Dozzer:

Dion is only getting a 500k raise and will be a fine deal for the next 5 years. Years 6-7 might be tough.

Signing Franson to a 3-4 million deal will also be fine. The guy is money in the bank for points and they seem to come at important moments in the game. The guy has also cranked up the physicality. 4th in the league for hits. Yes, you try to shelter him a bit from the other teams top lines as he is pretty slow. But overall he is a piece I am fine with keeping.

Can't believe Holland is dropped to the forth line. Dude has 8 pts in 10 games. He is our best center right now.

That's a pretty big gap so plus minus shows something here. He's a much better all around defenseman then franson by a wide margin you put franson in his position you ll think ranger was a solid d man.
