No, the Streit move was & is a waste, bad decision, & I don't see it getting any better, I would rather move him sooner then later, lets make a move, something to get a better guy to play some minutes, Streit shouldn't have came here under any curcumstance, to quote mike mil bury, he's as soft as goose poop.
As for Hartnell, we have to give to get, & someone mentioned we have he & Simmonds, we actually have 3 in Downie as well, wingers that play with an edge.
Easier to get a 3rd line winger then a top 4 D man I think. - puckhead17
I think if Hartnell would waive his NTC they could get value back.
Maybe the NTC and his long deal limits the return, but he is still a good hockey player with size and grit, and would fit the needs of a lot of teams. |

It sure is fun to watch Giroux and Voracek play with confidence like this.
When they have it they are scary.
Where are all the Fraud Giroux people right now? |

Know its not a news place, but couldn't resist just one.
France passes millionaire tax. 66% on those who make more than 1 million euro a year.

imo we don't need a top 4 dman. we need a top 2 dman. actually we need two top 2 dmen. If we are going to shed assets it should be for a top pairing dman. Look how the hawks built their core - 4 superstar forwards (Sharp, Hossa, Toews, Kane) and 2 top dmen (Keith, Seabs). Thats the model I would try and emulate. We've been content shipping assets out for too many non-elite dmen (L Schenn, Grossmann, Kubina). Go big next time and get the 'core' dman to build the d around around. |

Right now he's mainly a 3rd line guy for us, he does work well in sync with out PP & maybe that aids to his value, we just need help on our back line so bad, something has to give, I think last night was the easiest game on the trip, (and maybe Calgary), see what happens in the coming games, but this trip may tell a lot of where we are, and what moves they make. |

In real life? Or NHL14?
Kidding, they were a bad bad team for 10 years to draft the players your speaking of, there's nothing we have to offer to get any D men of that class, unless you want to make Schenn your #1 center & ship Giroux out?
We have assets, but I don't see stripping the team down to nothing as an option.
I can live with keeping some assets & bringing in an upgrade over "off the Mark" Streit |

Speaking about the up coming games, I think they play a close game in Van, but will struggle against Phoenix, and expect Colorado with their forward speed could be a blow out game against.
I could be completely wrong too, who knows. |

I kind of see things that way as well, I hope we're both wrong, I hate to say it, but Mason has to play better as well, I suppose we will see Emery in Calgary.
Where are the Hartnell trade rumors being mentioned?
Edit, Colorado's D isn't all that good, so if we bottle up the middle, like last night in the 2nd & 3rd periods, and forecheck hard we could maybe get at least a point. |

Atlas is shrugging...
Shouldn't come as a surprise, however. They've had a socialist president in Hollande for quite some time now and he has been slacking. Interesting though to see him intervening in various African and Middle Eastern states. That's the job of the imperialst capitalists! They took your jobs! Dey duk dah dobs!
To not drift too off topic: french soccer players are being taxed very, very hard as well. This has an impact on the quality of players and their upper league. The french league is in many ways a competitor of the spanish, german, english and italian leagues. In time, will we be seeing the same thing with the KHL vs NHL?
I am not american, but: do separate states tax NHL players differently in the US? IIRC, some states do? If so, quite a handicap for franchises in high tax states... |

Get your optimism out of here.
This team is mediocre and has no shot at the playoffs, no matter what the truth actually is. And evwn if they do make the playoffs, it doesn't matter. Everyone knows that the playoffs are predictable and only the higher seeded teams play for the Cup. |

I'd give Coburn and Grossman solid credentials this season. Neither has been horrible. Noone expected them to be #1s, so for what their roles are I am happy. Timmo too is getting along nicely after a slow start. Gus hasn't been horrible either
Streit hurts and has not played up to anywhere near his contract in my opinion. Both terms and length of that contract is scary. Schenn hurts because we handed over JVR for him. But I am not ready to shrug him off. He was remarkable nearing the end of last season playing with Timmo IIRC.
Mes and Gill are just that: Mes and Gill. 4 D's have done decent enough jobs, two(Gus/Schenn) are still young and struggling, while the three others(Mes, Gil, Streit) are worrying to me. Wouldn't mind doing some bolstering on the back end. |

Absolutely. Just look at the LA v Devils final. I remember saying to a friend that year (at the beginning of the playoffs before LA went on their playoff tear), "if LA and Devils both make the final it will be a joke" |

We seriously need a solid defenseman, addition by subtraction, to go any further, and here's the sad part, we haven't had any serious injuries to deal with yet. |

Luke Schenn?
It would be hard to pull off. The Blues are right up against the cap. Whatever money we're sending out needs to come back.
Also, it doesnt make much sense at all for a team vying hard for the Cup to shop one of their top D men. They might like Hartnell, but they are certainly not in dire need of him. |

We've seen flashes of what Luke can be. I remember saying last offseason, when someone might've had him slated on the 2nd or 3rd pairing, "I think he's proven himself to be a top pairing shutdown guy", and I wasn't wrong then. He was amazing at the end of last season. If he can be that again, our defense will be one piece closer to being a good corp.

Agreed.
I really dont know what their plan is. Wait 3-4 years for Morin and Hagg to be ready? Hope Phaenuf hits FA?(it doesnt sound like he will) Or sit and stare happily at our deep depth at center while the blueline goes to crap? |

BSchenn, I meant. It's funny cause their defense would still be really good without one of their top 3 guys in the lineup. If they're asking about Hartnell like Ek claims, that puts us in the position of the seller. That means we have more flexibility to get what we need, which is one of their top 3 dmen. |
