Giveaways per 60 minutes:

Meszaros: 2.81
Gustafsson: 2.13
Grossmann: 1.93
Coburn: 1.75
Timonen: 1.39
L. Schenn: 1.23

It's science.

this team is so weird.

do you think there will be any significant deadline moves if they are healthy and remain around the same position they are in now?

I think the artificially lowered cap is going to make for a very quiet trade deadline.

I thought that was rather kind. You obviously haven't seen me get mean.

They don't have a Tim Tebow either.

So it stands to reason they have much, much less to cover.

Tebow has God on his side, so there's that.

When US covers college players, they don't care where they were born just how much talent they have.
- mayorofangrytown

Did you ever think its because 95% of all college players are US born? I can sure understand why Canada might do that. If Canada only has 1 Basketball team, then why woudlnt they want to follow the players from thier home country?

The only reason the US doesnt do that is because we have 4 major sports with the majority of our citizens playing in these sports.

12 1sts for Jagr should get them over the hump.

Perhaps I'm not understanding the nuance of this debate, but I'm going to have to disagree with the bold above... Canada has a population smaller than the state of California, so it stands to reason they have much less to cover.
- wolfhounds

If you're covering major North American sports on a one hour show how do you have less to cover whether you're in Detroit or Toronto. I'd rather vigorously argue that they cover MORE sports than a US broadcast. They give full coverage to the NFL, NHL, NBA and MLB plus US and Canadian college sports, CFL, Curling and Soccer along with the CHL and International play which all get far less coverage in the US.

I'm not saying it's right or wrong. I kinda like it. I'm saying that's why we know the Canadian team at the WJCs more than the US team despite the fact we live in the US. We get it through all the Hockey we watch that's broadcast from Canada plus NHLNetork coverage.

If the team is in a solid playoff position, I can definitely see a defenseman being brought in. Someone with mobility and puck moving ability.

It shows how good how Mason has been this year, this defense core is really bad.
How the hell was L. Schenn a -3 in a game the Flyers won allowing 3 goals. That's damn near impossible. He keeps getting worse.

I was surprised no one predicted a Sestito goal yesterday, perhaps it was a given, and didn't need to be mentioned.

There's a nationalist bias in their coverage and coverage of Canadian based teams is reflective of that but so also is their coverage of Canadian born players. They promote them more than the US does. It's more of the little sister to the North thing.

If the original question is "Why do were know Canadian prospects more than US prospects?" It's because Canadian media promotes their athletes more. They do that because they choose to, not because they have less to cover.

- mayorofangrytown

I dont think thats correct. I think the reason you dont know the US prospects as much is because Junior Hockey is a major attraction in Canada, like College Football is in the US. Did being American hurt Seth Jone's coverage? Was he any less touted? How about JVR?

I think you're tangenting away from the actual argument. You're talking about top 4 picks in the draft. Anyone who follows hockey as closely as we do know all of those guys regardless.

Your position is Canadian outlets cover more sports with more depth than their American counterparts who focus on fewer sports but go deeper with their selective coverage?

Schenn was a minus 3 because he was paired with Meszaros--who blew his coverage on two goals.

The third goal was just bad luck.

Put Schenn back with Timonen (like last year) and let him simplify his game--(hit, pass to Timonen, repeat).

I'm saying, despite covering a wider variety of sports on a regular basis they bias their coverage toward their native sons and do a hell of a job of it.
