If u are sitting in a playoff spot and "sell" you might as well forget about getting anybody under decent contract terms for quite a few seasons.
- Bieksa#3

Also, try selling that to your season's ticket holders.

Then why trade a second, and we should be sellers instead?
- VANTEL

I agree, but I'd be careful to sell the right pieces and not sell off too many. There's a fine line. But lets be real here, Gillis/ownership ain't gonna sell. Money matters.

He might actually be a worse player then David booth now.
- Bieksa#3

No kidding. I wouldn't totally be against a swap of those 2 though since Heatley could maybe help the PP.

Exactly. You are 6 points out you have a "out" excuse. But lets say the canucks are in 7th. Its suicide. No respect for how your players have played through injury etc. And no respect for the fans.

It would need to be a good return . Here is an example of the type of trade I would expect ( I doubt it would happen but) Edler Booth Burrows for McDonagh and Kreisler

What is easier to sell to your fan base ? An aging team that struggles scoring and first round exit ,or a couple of young and up and comers?

I remember one of us guys hearing that we traded Schneider for Horvat and we didn't see him for days. I am sure he feels a lot better now.

I get what you're saying and that's just an example, but there's no way the Rangers make that trade IMO.

The Sedins have had their prime and are still very good players ,much like Thorton. Gillis has done little to help ease them into slowing down.

Sharks have surrounded Marleau Thorton with Couture Hertl and little Joe , we got Booth Burrow s ( sorry he is getting old) and Higgins .huge difference and that is why other fans say that imaginary window is closing

- VANTEL

Different teams at different times. Sharks had their peak a couple of years earlier and when they didn't get over the hump they started making room for some younger players. That's paying off for them now. Hopefully the Canucks new high-end prospects will start to come into their own within a couple of years.

Burrows has been a highly effective player up until this season with all his injuries. Sure he's a year older but no GM would have replaced him at the end of last (lockout shortened) season. Higgins is quite serviceable as a third line winger but he's playing above where he should be because of the disaster that is David Booth. Booth was an appealing option when he was acquired for the broken down and washed up Samuelsson and (what the hell was Gillis thinking?) Marco Sturm. Concussions were his primary health concern and it was hoped he'd return to his 30 goal form playing on a better team. At the time that trade really looked like it had the potential to finally add scoring depth without really giving up much of anything. Instead he's kept the team handcuffed to mediocrity. They've had to repeatedly wait for him to get healthy enough to see if he can return to form or be bought out.

If they can get rid of Booth and replace him with a legitimate top 6 scoring threat and somehow get Kassian onto that second line to put some size into their top 6, they'll look a whole lot better compared to San Jose.

Who are we talking about here? I called the Schneider trade long before it happened. And to answer your question the answer is #1.

I know NYR would not make that trade , this is the point we need to move some of these aging players. They are losing value by the game. It is time for a big injection of youth.

Can you imagine trying to move a 33 year old Burrows next year that makes 4.5 mil and scored 6 goals the year before playing with the Sedins?

Did you see how much value Clowe dropped last year?

Clowe brought 2 2nds and a 4th. Which is probably what burrows is worth now and next yr.
Higgins for a 3rd/2nd

If u think we are gonna magically deal these guys and get bluechip young players your out to lunch

I was expecting a Luongo buyout or an "agreement" with Florida.

3 things that have (frank)ed Gillis:

1. Not firing AV when he first took over.
2. The AV/Gillis handling of Luongo/Schneider.
3. Hodgson for Kassian(even if he had to move him, he should have held out for better value).

Bonus: Booth and Ballard*

If you could get two seconds and a fourth for Burr I would look long and hard at it. The shelf life of NHLers is decreasing. Younger bigger faster kids are pushing vets out the door.

Hey you were not the only one, my kid said he was through with the Canucks too. Twitter fainted at that point in the draft

I still like the

The writing was on ze wall for months. I believe vantal and I had a discussion on here.
Schneider is a great goalie, no question. But far to many people on this forum gave him the maple leaf trade value.
A top 9 pick in perhaps the richest draft ever. So lets say top 5 pick in the average draft. For a great yet largely unproven #1 goalie. And you guys don't like the deal

AV shouldn't have been fired when Gilles got here. I believe he should been fired after the 2nd loss to the hawks.

I am on the fence on the Kassian trade. Right now neither player is a top 6 on many teams for a varying amount of reasons and weaknesses.
I don't like the trade because if that was indeed the best he could have done for Hogdson then do it at the draft. If your going to move him at the deadline you need to improve your team
