Pittsburgh needs D-men right now. Maybe Bieksa for Crosby, Neal and a 1st? - KB3Point0

While Bieksa may be Tort's "gunslinger" and a witty post-game interview, he is someone I wouldn't mind MG packaging to acquire some top 6 scoring depth. I'm not sure if he has a NTC or not, but I would guess the market is fairly good for a quality RH defenseman.
I know he can show up for big games and provide a timely goal now and then, but it just seems that now when he takes chances it costs us more often than not. He tries to make the cute play instead of the safe or right play and gets caught deep in the offensive zone.
What would Bieksa + Gaunce or Jensen bring back?
ps... time to give Kassian a shot with the Sedins. The Hansen experiment is a bust. - we_are_all_canucks
Canucks need his grit - trade Edler. |

Canucks would have to include a third rounder and David Booth. He'd be the real key to the deal, a la Dave Gagner. - YeOldTimer
Dave "the key to this trade" Gagner! F*ck me Burke is an bumhole!!! |

I say keep Tanev. People are speculating that he'll get the 4.6 mil D salary like right meow.
He's a D man that is on pace for a 24 point season. I don't think he'll end up with 8 goals. 6 maybe. Has a muffin of a shot and won't see PP time.
He might crack 2 mil at the end of the season. Might be 2.5 without a NTC...
Bieksa needs to stay - he has an underrated ability to keep the puck in the O zone. Plus he's got character and the only nasty D man on the roster. He leaves and what little truculence the canucks have is gone too.
Trade for a D like Ron Hainsey or something at the deadline for depth. Maybe Talinder if management is feeling saucy. |

I agree with this post but can we leave the "truculence" word out of the canucks team |

NTC should not even be mentioned. Too many on the team now. You have to have some tradeable assets.
I like your numbers for him- around 2mil. Everyone back there can't make 4mil per. - we need the bargain price over achieving guys like him and Stanton now. I would have no issue with trading a 4mil D for a top 6 forward if possible. |

Those numbers would get him 49 million over 7 years in Toronto.

Carol, if you still follow the posts after blogging can you answer a question (although I think I know)? Is your ranking based solely on how each performs with the canucks or do you also rank them against d-men through-out the NHL? If within the canucks organization I agree with most. Might be a little generous with some, basically because of the way they Benny Hill a tight game late in the 3rd.
What do you think about comparing canuck players against other teams players in the same positions? I think it would make for interesting discussion from posters of all teams.

After I posted I thought I'd look at comparable D-men. I started with Alzner who makes 2.8 for the next 4 or 5. I figure he'd be a high end comparable for Tanev. Then I got bored and did something else. but any more than that and ship him.
I know the nucks need a top 6 forward, but recent injuries to the blue line show that D depth isn't so deep. After Corrado there's nada. And Alberts/Weber I'd prefer to be 8th D men, not 7. Need Aaron Rome type.
Besides Horvat will be a call up come playoff time.

Echoes of Brian Burke. I make no promises for the future use of this word. I also might drive Tanev to the airport if he's looking for over 2.6. |

If you could squish Alberts and Weber into one player it would almost be perfect.
Jury is out on Weber. Dmen always take forever to figure out a new system/partners. Once they figure it out they're alright and then by the end of the season they flourish. |
