Tim Panaccio of CSN Philly: On the day the Flyers traded James van Riemsdyk to the Maple Leafs for Luke Schenn, the Coyotes offered them Keith Yandle. It was the same deal the Maple Leafs got.
You're GM is on bathsalts. That is all - Mapleleafs_91
I'm not trying to be funny here, but seriously--read Tim's blog, then ask yourself--Is this a person I would trust with hockey knowledge?
In short, Tim is clueless. |

Welcome to the club...I'd be amazed if it was the same price, although that summer the Flyers seemed Hell bent on adding righty shooting defensemen. - Jsaquella
I doubt it's true. The asking price was Couturier and B. Schenn. I doubt they would have just taken JVR. |

I'm not high on Yandle, but I'd certainly rather have him than Schenn. - PhillySportsGuy
I'd love to have Yandle. Great skater, outstanding offensive skills and instincts and he does work hard on his two way game. |

Yeah, because Brian Burke is a (frank)ing idiot...notice for all his bluster, the only time he's won anything is when he piggybacked on Bryan Murray's Ducks team. |

Reading the Burnside article, the only guy I found myself agreeing with was Lombardi in LA.
It's the biggest rink-size possible. You have an offensive weapon on the D end--a guy that supplies skills that every other d-man on the team lacks--better to have him and not need him, then need him and not have him.
Brooks Orpik? Seriously? I hope they prove me wrong, but sheesh. This team leaves a lot to be desired.

He doesn't have all the influence. I didn't see any of the other GMs or coaches completely disagreeing with him. |

Because Burke's a dolt?
Yandle is underrated defensively, at least round these parts imo. |

Not to mention that the team is being coached by Bylsma and Lavi. And you know their systems are forward pressure.... And we know what happens when you have D-men that cant move the puck to the forwards... Can you say 10-2 Canada? |

I would have taken Yandle as an extra dman. Who knows if they'll need a spark on the PP or offensively. |

I'd like to think Holmgren looked this every time everyone in that room had an idea:

Lombardi did. You know the guy that built a Stanley Cup winner, basically from the ground up. |

Yes on Carlson, no on McDonagh.
Carlson has a ton of potential, but he's still prone to the miscue in his own end. |

I think Holmgren said the least out of anyone in that article.
His praise for players was always somewhat lukewarm.
Erik Johnson--Hasn't lived up to expectations of 1st overall pick, but he's been good since he went to Colorado--I think is the only real "praise" he gave anyone.

I would rather have Carlson. I would rather have Paul Martin as well. Yandle would scare me. USA is talented but certainly not as talented as others. They will need defensive responsibility. They will need to win some low scoring games. |

100% with you on this one. Suter and Yandle were the two no-brainers on D (in my mind.)
I like Martin (as an American, not as Penguin / ex-Devil), Shattenkirk, and E. Johnson, too.
And Carlson would've been my six. |

I believe his quote is that Yandle doesn't have scissorhands. This came after Burke railed against him. |

But it's a huge rink. The games will, generally, be different than what we're used to. Give Yandle that much more room and he's twice as scarey carrying the puck.
I think USA over-thought this Olympics after the Vancouver games used an NHL size rink. |

They aren't playing on a soccer field sized rink! It's bigger, but that just means there more room to cover on defense as well. Skating is an asset, but it can also leave you further out of position. |
