CBC.CA: Elliotte Friedman reports Sam Gagner’s no-trade clause doesn’t kick in until next season. Though GM Craig MacTavish promised Gagner not to trade him this season, Friedman believes it sounds like both sides want a change. “Should a deal happen, no doubt MacTavish will try to make it a soft landing”…

More smoke on the Gagner front...

- Reveen

I wonder if that makes him #2 for asking for a trade quietly.

Yah that's a joke. I wouldn't want Kadri. Especially for Yak. And not for Gags either. If we move either it needs to be a better return than that. That would be a move for the sake of a move that wouldn't benefit us at all.

I also like the bit below::

EDMONTON JOURNAL: In a response to one of his readers, Jim Matheson lists Ales Hemsky, Nick Schultz, Ryan Jones and Ryan Smyth as possible candidates to be moved by the trade deadline. He also believes they could listen to offers for goalies Ilya Bryzgalov and Devan Dubnyk... Really we would NOT be entertaining offers on our tending....

I like the bit on TSN how he says he thinks PIT will use Depres for help yet the PIT guy doesn't think they are going to look at rentals.

Friedman was just on tsn 1260 and said team, player and agent are tight lipped about it, but if he was wrong to put this out, he would have heard it from Lowe at the team cdn announcement event....in which case..he didn't. When there is smoke, there is a fire.

Friedman doesn't lie. He hates reporting stuff that he doesn't know for sure is true.

Once again, I'll believe the Gagner trade when I see it.

Interesting to see national media commenting on it, but it's not the first time (in the last 6 months!) he's been on the trading block

We've never heard he's been on the block like this though. It was always fans throwing him into a swinging stick so to speak.

I'd count the speculation from local media during each of the past two RFA negotiations. From about when Hemsky started getting severely injured until Eberle this year, he's been considered our most tradeable asset in terms of major upgrades.

I'll admit there's been nothing like this though. I'm a somewhat intrigued, because mere lacklustre play usually doesn't change a relationship from a "special no-move promise" to a "mutually agreed trade exploration" situation in 6 months.

I don't recall local media every really saying we are trying to move him. They've talked about how we should move them, but that's about it.

I find the Edmonton media is generally pretty tight lipped about anything that WILL happen, so plausible scenarios is often the best you get.
But you're right this is a slightly different animal.

I don't count Matheson either as the guy gets outright shut down by a lot of people.

The best was still Brownlee who loves Matheson asking about Weber with some guy from Nashville. It took until that guy told Brownlee that there is zero chance Weber is dealt unless he demands a trade for him to give it up. I like when media from other cities law at our media guys on live radio.

At this moment probably. Long term yak by a mile if he lives up to expectations.
