After Dudley decided he didn't want to leave Montreal... I had a bad feeling about this whole situation. Then I slowly came around to Jim Benning and that he helped play a role in getting both the Sabres and Bruins to the Stanley Cup Finals. Now I have to convince myself that the brother of Bryan Murray (a guy who drives me nuts just to look at, let alone listen to) is now going to make the big decision for my favorite team... I'm sitting here with very mixed emotions. Mostly disappointed and reminding myself of the many times I've been wrong before. Here is to faith in Pat Lafontaine and his decision-making ability...

Honestly, no one has any idea how Tim Murray is going to play out and getting upset about it for arbitrary reasons is just goofy and baseless. The sooner we get a new GM we can either wait a championship team be built or watch somebody completely wreck something that was half torn down. Either way, we'll see in a few years.

I swear Buffalo fans are worse than Leaf fans. Pat was too slow, Pat was making sure new GM would hire Nolan and on and on . Relax people Pat did his due diligence interviewed lots of candidates and got input from lots of peoples whose opinion he respected. Can we give the new GM some time before we tar and feather him !

Go read the Ottawa fans' reactions on HF and you will be glad this is the guy. I wan't a big Benning cheerleader. I don't know enough about him except hs time in Buffalo and Boston but I didn't know how strong a talent evaluator he is, not to mention I'm not a fan of Sabres' hires having to have Sabres blood to get the job.

I like how Murray reportedly built a lot of the Anaheim Stanley Cup team, I love a lot of Ottawa's prospects, I like that he started out in the best organization in the league, Detroit. So, you put that all together and I like the choice.

And they are already skeptical about the hiring . Give me a break . Some of these fans take their own opinions and knowledge far too seriously !!

Garth is pulling some umadbro cause it's not Jim Benning. Cause Jim Benning is the only man that can resign Miller.

In the end he hired someone who was willing to take the job on a team with no direction and a long rebuild ahead of them.

You're right . He should be fired right now . Before we even hire him. It should be left up to the members of Hockeybuzz who should be hired !!!

Patty certainly conducted a more thourough search than Darcy did when replacing Ruff.

I liked the idea of Jim Benning, but lets be honest, there is race against the clock here. The trade deadline isn't very far away, and the decisions made leading up to the deadline will signifigantly alter the course of this franchise for the next several years.

On a side note, I don't expect any negotiation troubles so long as Pegula is in the room. For all intensive purposes, Murray is our new GM.

If I'm the incoming GM looking to deliver my boss (Pegula) his bell cow (Miller), I'm trying to sell Miller on a blueprint that looks like the ones in LA, Stl, & Chi...

Meaning, I tell Millsy we are going to build him a world class defensive corps to play behind. One with all the bells and whistles (size, muscle, awareness & skill).

Myers, Ristolinen, Zadorov, & McNabb bring the size. Erhoff & Pysyk bring some slick puck skills...

But something is still missing, and that's Arron Ekblad!

Yup... If I'm trying to keep Miller, I tell him were going all out to bring Ekblad to Buffalo!

That would be great but the best defense in the world still isn't going to help us if we don't have any forwards on the top line. We would not be building like LA or Chicago, and maybe St Louis if we did that, we'd be building like Nashville. If we took Ekblad, someone, like Myers would have to go, and Ehrhoff would already be gone.

If I'm trying to re-sign Miller I tell him $8 for 5-6 years and a rebuild very much like everyone thinks it's going to go. He's either going to like it or not. I hope he does.

That's all fine and dandy, but who is scoring the goals?
