Edm would hang up the phone , if your talking eberle it would prob require letang in return ... - Brianandr1
I agree, I'm just trying to gauge people's take on the prospects. The Penguins could attempt to blow a team like Edmonton away with a deal of high-end prospects for Eberle, but I'm wondering how far you'd be willing to go. |

Taking cap restrictions away, would you guys trade Despres + a 2014 1st for Eberle? He would be a good fit for Sid's line. - jmatchett383
I would do that in a second. |

I was watching that one first, I hate to say it but they've turned the corner. They are a legitimate threat. I think it will be a dogfight between them, the Rags and the Isles from here on out. The Isles, and especially Tavares, are on fire. - canadianpenfan
Yep, I have been watching and I agree with this completely. |

I would absolutely. Even with Cap Restrictions, I would find a way for that to work. |

Okay then. Moving forward, what is your "blow them away" package that you'd offer? Keep in mind, Edmonton's #1 needs are good young defenseman and a 20-25 game backup goalie. |

A core prospect shouldn't be moved for a bottom-6 player. An offseason deal is more likely. Or, if you have a glaring need (someone to fill Dupuis' spot ont he top line, for instance), that's where they move should be for one of them. - jmatchett383
definitely. honestly i wouldnt be opposed to moving one of them for a bottom 6 guy if the deal was right. i realize its a hypothetical, but a signed Ott would be worth a say Dumoulin and a third or fourth to me. |

If I were edm I d give u eberle and a 2nd ( which will basically be a first) for sutter, Bennett , bortozzo and poulliot ... To much to hmgive up in my opinion but eberle is a star |

not to gut all of the fun out of this by coming up with too many qualifications, but is the point of this hypo to find a route that doesnt include letang? as well as he looked the other night, im still with a lot of the others and think a letang/eberle swap would be great for both sides. |

You'd have to make that Maata (and be prepared to sweeten the deal) to get Edmonton to not hang up the phone immediately. |

I can't take cap restrictions away. Any deal involving an Eberle type player coming in would have to include Letang going out. If Letang leaves, Despres has to stay.
Regardless of the cap going up and if we "could" fit both i don't want to. We have too many guys with high cap hits, if we bring another in someone else with an existing one has to go for the long term health of the franchise. |

i may be in the minority here, but Sutter is a guy i really want to hold on to. i think his value to the pens far outweighs his value in a deal anyway. he can be the perfect third liner for this team. good enough in both ends that he can be worry free on the third line, but not exactly great enough where he's gonna price himself out a la jordan staal.
he has some offensive capability (would be more apparent if guys like (frank)ing pyatt werent constantly his linemates) and he is good defensively and on the PK. all while being young and cheap. he can grow with this team into the future. |

Yes it is. I know Letang hasn't really lived up to expectations this year, but, as well as Maata's been, Letang is still your best bet at a true #1 defenseman. Maata and Despres show promise, but so did Patrick Lalime early in his career. I don't think moving Letang is wise, unless it's a deal for an even better defenseman, or a true superstar (on the level of Tavares, etc) unless there's more coming back. I consider Eberle one step down from a superstar, so i wouldn't do a 1-for-1 deal. |

I figured that'd cool interest on your end. You're more than likely not getting Eberle at painless cost though, no offense to Despres. |

Ok. If there was no cap and MacTavish took 8 too many hits of acid, I would trade Despres and Niskanen straight up for Eberle.
edit- you asked about a first, my bad. Still yes. |

Dealing with prospects' value is always tough... Fans of a team are always higher on a team's prospects because we've been in love with "what they could be" for years.
To other teams' fans, they are just another guy who was a high draft pick. |

true. i understand you have to give to get. but i would be wary of opening too many holes to fill one. our bottom 6 is atrocious, imagine how it will be without sutter. the PK would suffer immensely as well. |

Edmonton probably would never consider that...so yes, absolutely.
I love Despres but that's one that wouldn't be easy to turn away. |

Potential is a 2 way street in this case anyway. If the Pens are giving up any of Letang, Despres etc. they're doing so in the hopes that Eberle could thrive on this team. They wouldn't trade these guys because they think it's worth it for a 6 million dollar player on pace for under 70 points.

im open to trading any of them in a deal that i think ultimately makes the team better. at the risk of overhyping a perceived flavor of the month, maatta right now holds tremendous value in my eyes. i couldnt see many deals in which it would convince me to move him in a package. i personally still love despres as well, although i can see if others around the league dont hold him up as a pristine prospect. id consider moving him though in a deal if it was right. im probably not as high on pouliott as others, but lately it has definitely been more encouraging. if the team is hell bent on keeping letang, it would likely make sense on gauging his level of value to other teams since the are kind of a redundant player. |
