The guy constructing this collection of losers also deserves some scrutiny. I'm less and less impressed with MB as time goes on.
That said, I will say that I think the pieces on this team are better than the previous editions who played under Carbo (whom I wouldn't have fired), Martin (whom I absolutely would have fired), or Cunneyworth (who shouldn't have been hired). I don't think that MT's style of play and management style are playing to his players' strengths. But that's me. - razr

M'eh.
Bergevin is also very careful about how he describes PK, because Subban is in a contract year, it's not the time for a GM/coach to praise him night in night out. Subban has a great agent and he will use everything he can to garner more of Molson's money.
Most of the time they label him as a 'good young player'. I doubt we'll hear it from Therrien nor Bergevin that PK is the best Habs D, even though when it will be time to pay the numbers won't lie. - QuebecPride
Ya...not praising him will definitely deter the perceived value of the reigning Norris winner in his contract search... |

Are calling it that simply because it's an English language station? Because apart from that, I don't see anything about TSN that makes it worthy of that nickname. - razr
It's because of Dan.

Right, the best player.
Which is what they should do... but you then trade one for the pieces you are missing. Not try and turn a Yakupov into a checking 3rd liner. |

I'm sure New York and Los Angeles have no interest in a black superstar who hasn't even entered his prime. Nor do I imagine that PK is interested in living in a real city. |

I bet there are quite a few successful coaches in the NHL history that were not exactly loved by their players. |

Yeah, well, if MT wins 4 Cups in a row, I'll let the egomania slide. |

so then it's safe to say that even with great goaltending, they're a .500 team. actually, sub .500 when you factor in OT/SO loss. - DoubleDown
I don't believe that. I'm not saying they're as good as a team that can lock down the winning percentage they had in that 10 game streak, but they are better than the team that's gone .500 for the other 35.
There's no way they don't believe they can be better, either. The coach knows they can be better. The GM does. The team does too. |

So the exact some skills that the team has been labeled with for the last 30 years.
Nice, how has that been working out? |

The potential is there to be better but the players are not playing to their potential. No team will ever have all of their players meeting their potential. The team is mediocre and will be middle of the pack at the end of the season and get trampled in the playoffs. |

Eric. Not sure how you can really say this.
Outside of PK and Price take a good look at that roster....it's pretty mediocre. |

The better question would be to name a coach that all the players praised while playing for him who has actually won anything of importance.
Player friendly coaches never get lasting results.
Great Coaches are hated by the players until after they see that the coach got the best out of him.
But there is more to great coaching then just yelling and benching.
MT is not a great coach |

earlier in the season i would have agreed but as time goes by i just don't see it. they just seem a bit shorthanded in every department. can't score, and the defence folds pretty quickly. |
