In a draft where there may only be 2 legitimate building blocks.
- BetterCallSaul

If we trade that pick, a third building block will be found by team that uses it, that's how it goes

Would you settle for 2?
1. Bernier
2. Bolland

- 1979AD

3. Connoly to the minors
4. Lombardi to Phoenix

both ineffective 3rd liners that stayed in Burke's lineup.

I wonder could the pendulum have swung too far to the protection mode now. Under Wilson it was way to aggressive, under RC maybe too passive now.
- aminnes

Ronnie had no defensive system to speak of. His tenure was a mess top to bottom, as evidenced by his abysmal special teams numbers.

Carlyle still thinks it's 1999. He plays an outdated style of hockey that has been extinct for years.

Almost every team in the league would kill for a player like Gardiner. That's the nature of defense these days. They have to be able to skate and handle the puck. Carlyle wants him to play like Fraser. It's madness.

I'm not saying I'm his biggest fan, but management was expecting the team to struggle for a playoff spot. Also losing bolland was a big hit to the leadership, it's no coincidence this team has falling apart since his injury

It's times like these where I really, really wish I'd played competitive hockey at some point...

I have only the vaguest sense (inspiration, x's and o's) of what a head coach is supposed to do at any level... I would assume that with NHL-level players, it's usually less a matter of motivation and more about maintaining morale and discipline?

I imagine hockey players at that level are usually pretty motivated, but when they are selfish, confused, disorganized, or lacking confidence I imagine that would take a pretty big toll... All of which I'm seeing from various Leafs these past few games.

1. Acquired a backup goalie.
2. Overpaid 3rd line centre who's past his prime and injured.

Hey, it took Canucks fans less than a year to realize Nonis is Burke's clone and he's no better than Burke. Some of you people are realizing it now, hopefully management doesn't hold onto him much longer. As the Leafs continue to struggle, their draft spot will get better, however Nonis has never done well in drafts, and will never do well unless someone falls into his lap.
