Not to be too optimistic about it, but we did go to the Conference Finals two consecutive seasons after that.
The point is that, in pro sports, you're never as far off or as close as you think you are.
The life of a fan seems to be pretty manic depressive, but you've got to remember just how many random variables are at play every year. After a loss, it's easy to get caught up in the "OMG! THIS IS A DISASTER! WE'LL NEVER WIN ANOTHER GAME AGAIN!" mentality. After a win, we feel on top of the world, like a championship is right around the corner.
You think this place is crazy? I did some browsing around the Denver Broncos fan forums this season. My God, you'd think they were a last place team some days.

I actually need to change my mind about trading Kadri.
It isn't that I've changed my mind about him. I still think he has a sh1t attitude.
I just can't believe anything I see on the ice from any individual Leafs player at this point. There is only one explanation for an entire team tanking. Also, Clarkson may not be a perrenial 30 goal guy, but he has been invisible since coming here.
Liles looks like he used to look before he came to Toronto.
MacArthur, is not as good as his numbers now, but there is real improvement since he got away from the Leafs.
Grabovski may have been overpaid, but he is better than ANY Leafs center right now.
It is no coincidence that these guys flourished away from here...
and let's not forget the state of the Anaheim Ducks before they dumped Carlyle. |
