He does have a point. We're technically the 3rd youngest team.

That's meaningless.

Could be worse. Flames shutout in 5 of their last 7. Outscored 24-5 last 7

They're supposed to lose, they're rebuilding from scratch. Go back to trolling, you're not very good at this sympathy stuff..

They fit into Wilson's system, they didnt fit into Carlyles.

They chose Bozak over Grabovski, which is not bad because he is playing well and makes less.

They chose Clarkson over MacArthur, which has been brutal, because Clark is back to his 60 pt self and Clarkson is putting up a 20 pt pace.

Liles/Gleason is a bit too soon to judge considering toronto is ice cold and carolina is red hot

- GardinerExpress

I realize the rationale for moving all three of these guys. I'm not even going to disagree with it here.

The problem is that once they get out of Toronto, we realize how brutally under-utilized they were. They did not live up their potential here, clearly.

Maybe Mac had to go, maybe he didn't. But wouldn't it have been nice to make that decision based on his full potential?

Grabo and Liles we had to pay to move. Again, maybe they belonged here and maybe they didn't, but how do they instantly go from burdens here to assets elsewhere?

If we were going to trade Liles, it would have been much better to trade him at his true, peak value than kicking him around and making him look like a chump.

Gotta say it kind of is. Grabo played last year. Even if he didn't play well, he showed up with heart just about every game. Could say the same for a guy like Komarov. The team is missing that.
- UsernameUnknown

agreed, but we couldnt afford to pay a guy 5.5 to play the 3rd (4th with bolland in)
line and get us a point every 3rd game. He didnt mesh with Kessel, so he couldnt play line 1, and we had Kadri coming off a breakout season who had supplanted Grabo on line 2.

In a pre salary cap world this woulda been nice

I wouldnt call Liles an asset yet after getting his first point of the year in a blowout win against us. Grabovski yes, everyone knew he is a 50-55 point 2nd line player who plays his heart out. He got crunched by the numbers, and his inflated 5.5 mil salary

I would say that we'd have to pay more to trade Gleason back for Liles than we paid just to ship Liles out (low level prospect).

At the very least, we'd have to eat a chunk of Gleason's contract - something Carolina didn't have to do for us.

How sad is that?

Basically, we may have acquired an even bigger anchor of a contract than we traded away just because we couldn't figure out how to bring out his skill.

I get what you're saying. Most of the players they got rid of had something Management though they didn't need/want going forward. Grabo didn't fit, liles didn't fit, Komarov left us, MacA was just meh for them. Frattin as well.

When you look at it from an indivisual standpoint, the players we lost are overall not as good as the players we kept/acquired.

Only problem is, when you look at the team as a whole, they're worse.

Honestly, when Gardiner was scratched, I thought that meant he was getting traded.

Just seems like Randy's swell idea, now.
