Just think of it this way, at least you won't have the same feeling from last years playoffs.

So in the past nine drafts/years the Leafs have finished like this vs what the Blues have done but Cox says it takes time? They've assembled their team over the same amount of time the Leafs management had to assemble theirs.

2005 - 21st (Tuukka Rask) draft lottery from lockout.
2006 - 13th (Tlusty)
2007 - 13th traded pick away (Blues drafted Eller)
2008 - 7th (drafted Luke Schenn 5th)
2009 - 7th (Kadri)
2010 - 2nd (traded away for Kessel)
2011 - 9th (traded away for Kessel)
2012 - 5th (Rielly)
2013 - 21st (Gauthier)

Blues

2005 - 24th (TJ Oshie)
2006 - 1st (Erik Johnson - traded for Shattenkirk Stewart Rattie)
2007 - 9th (traded down to 13th Lars Eller) (18th Cole) (26th Perron)
2008 - 4th (Pietrangelo)
2009 - 17th (Rundblad - On June 25, 2010, he was acquired by the Ottawa Senators in exchange for the 16th overall pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, which the Blues used to select Vladimir Tarasenko)
2010 - 14th (Jaden Schwartz) 16th (Tarasenko)
2011 - 11th (traded away)
2012 - 25th (Schmaltz)
2013 - 22nd (traded away for Bouwmeester)

Why was Gardiner benched last night exactly?

Also, why was he benched in order to put Fraser in the lineup?

He won't see a minute of ice time. They could've brought Cory Cross instead.

That's a lot of good luck (and yes, good development) coupled with a market that can tolerate icing a sub-cap team for an extended period of time; Toronto, yeah, no.

But yeah, Leafs have had a long, well-documented (and beaten to death, but thanks for bringing this up again ) terrible track record for drafting and developing young players.

Oh and Cox is an idiot. Question: do the trolls honestly think that the Toronto media collective represents the fan base? Is that why they come in here and try to shove our faces in the poop every time a few losses pile up or are they just unsavory human beings to begin with?

Perfectly said. There is considerable luck with respect to the draft. I love it when I hear people comment on how amazing Detroit is in the draft, especially considering where they drafted Datsyk and Zetterberg. They were so sure that Datsyk was going to turn into one of the best if not best 2 way players in the game, they waited until the 6th round to draft him. Their foresight was incredible enough to see precisely who they'd be selecting, in round 6 of the draft.
