I can't even remember a trade with that big of value. Maybe the Nash trade. The difference being Yandle isn't top 20 in his position.
Who was even the last top pairing Dman dealt? Burns? for a 28th overall, Setoguchi, and Coyle?
Burns=>=Yandle
Gagner>Setoguchi
top 5+Klefbom>coyle+28th
Phaneuf for 4th liners+Stajan?
You can keep saying "ooh typical oiler fan logic"
A)that includes yourself
B)I know I'm right. You don't trade away huge stocks in the future for a quick fix - TheNugeIsHuge
What don't you understand about not knowing where a pick is going to be when you make a trade. If we got Yandle we would be a better team and win some hockey games, thus making the pick lower and less valuable. And the winning and confidence that it bring is far more valuable to this young team than tanking and getting a higher pick |

highly doubt EDM crawls out of bottom 8. Seeing as they're sitting behind calgary, a team that just scored it's first goal in 6 home games, I doubt adding a top pairing Dman would skyrocket them from 2nd last to anywhere above 7th-8th last.
I'll take a potential star over a pat on the bum from the coaching staff because they went from abysmal to only really bad |

byfuglien is a stud. if he's on the market EDM should check the price tag - TheNugeIsHuge
Don't you mean we should check the price tag and then when we have to give up assets decide, no we might have a guy that can play in 3 years maybe. |

They want to make a splash they need to go for Shea. Nashville was open to trading him Philly just didn't want to pay for him. - Yeti1181
I'm totally down for this idea! |

no kiddin. Why don't we deal Nurse for Paul Ranger? Nurse won't be helpful for 2-3 years whereas Ranger will help shore up the bottom pairing right away! |
|
|
|
So how do we get our hands on OEL or Erik Karlsson? At this point, with Melnyk's money concerns, maybe it is possible to pry EK out of Ott. - nated81
I don't think either of those guys are available no matter what but if Gretzky was traded I guess anyone could be |

You're right Ranger for Nurse is the same as Yandle+ Sameulsson for Gagner + Klefbom + 2014 1st rounder. Good analysis 3rd pairing dmen and 1st pairing dmen are exactly the same |

I wonder if it's that you just love Yandle, if you like yandle for gags, klef, 1st would you be similarly into say..
Arcobello, Nurse, 1st for Fowler? I'd say that's right around the same level |

Yeah, I don't really think OEL would be available at this point. EK, however, might be attainable if Melnyk's money woes continue. He may force Murray to get rid of him so that he could save some money. |

I agree, but he would not mesh with our bike-riding fitness-obsessed inexperienced Coach, so conflict would likely be the result.
How about looking to the Caps. Yak + for Wilson and one of Alzner/Carlson/Erskine? We'd get a young fast top-line winger plus help on the D. Caps get Yak to learn from Ovy. |

we can all wish for weber. nsh is not going to trade him. at least get rinne back in the line up and play one full season healthy with the top d-man and goalie, then decide. |

No I would not do that trade. Its not Yandle I have a hard on for but he is a very good dman. I want a 1st pairing dman and I want Gagner gone. |

Out of 10 million simulations of the rest of the season, there's less than a 3% chance we finish outside of the bottom 5. In fact, it's 80% likely we're going to be bottom 3.
Now think about GVT stats. For the uninitiated, GVT is essentially the wins above replacement for hockey. The best players in the league will single-handedly only get you 2-3 wins A YEAR. So no, adding a significant player likely is not going to have a huge impact on how we'll do in the next three months.
If you're talking about the 2014 1st, you're talking about a bottom 3 pick. Simple as that. |

If he has to sell off good assets like Pocklington that is a travesty and the league should step in and force him to sell the franchise before it comes to that. |

I don't agree with simulations. They don't take into consideration the human aspects of the game. |

Well, it's something to explore. We need some established D who are not too old to start shoring up the back end. So, any of those 3 D I mentioned would help us a lot, tho Erskine is starting to get a bit long in the tooth. |
