I've been pretty forthcoming with info about the draft on this board and the pool board—sorry if you missed it

Your 1st and 2nd rounders will still be valuable (and I'd hold on to most, unless you're offered a great young player/prospect), but I wouldn't put much value in anything higher than that.

I'd target some younger players that might break out next year for your older players, as well (the Bieksa's female doges method).

Good thing is, you'll probably snag some good players in the draft from the folded teams, and you still have time this season to make some more moves through trade/FA.

Might want to consider having every team select 2 or 3 player to drop from their roster at season's end. Beefs up the value of the draft and draft picks. I've seen other keeper pools do that. I have a buddy who's pool only let's you keep 8 players. Each to their own of course.

Whats the point of the draft picks if theres no draft!
- vancity787

There is a draft.

It's just not a re-draft of everyone's entire roster.

It includes all current FAs, the rosters of the two teams that are folding, and all players drafted in the 2014 NHL draft or signed from Europe in the offseason.

That's why anything past a 3rd round pick really doesn't have much value.

EDIT: again, there's been loads of chatter about this on here and the pool message board.

It's been suggested.

A few have posted in favour and a few against.

If it gets enough momentum, I can add a poll on the pool page, like I have with other possible changes for next season.

Opportunity, you never know who could be available when everything shakes loose.

You could start doing some shopping for next season now. A few guys have players on their rosters who are in the minors, but don't want to lose them. There are plenty of FA's left in the pool right now that aren't producing this season but have the potential to evolve for next.

I'm not telling you how to manage your team, I'm just trying to say that you're not as (frank)ed as you think you are.

Not to mention, you have 8 picks in the first two rounds. You should be able to pick up some pretty good players then.

I'm probably in favour, TBH.

I want the league to be competitive, and, in light of recent information, I feel pretty bad for Vancity787

So the more players available in the draft, the better...

We're actually debating dropping a bench spot or two for next season, so it might have been necessary to drop players anyway.

Yet to be determined. I think BlueChip, Otto, and Torts but a couple managers may take them over

Keep 15 guys and redraft the rest. Reduce bench spots by 3.

Two of Torts Pressers, Ottos Optimal team, and Bluechip.

We're only folding two, leaving it as an 18-team league.

There are a few guys who want to take over teams, so one of those three will just get a new manager.

I'm also waiting for word on two guys who don't check the site as often.

Pretty much everyone else has confirmed for next year.

There's now a poll on the pool site about reducing bench spots.

We'll decide on number if the majority vote yes.

8

There was originally 5 before the draft, but guys (the few that were actually paying attention when I was asking for suggestions about league rules/settings) kept asking for more, and nobody disagreed when I asked if people were against it.

There are a few in the pool that like the flexibility of lots of bench spots and daily roster changes, and there are a few who think it's too much work.

I did mention that I wanted it to be an intensive/involved league when I was asking who wanted to join, but some must have missed it.

Again, there's a poll.

But if we cut the bench spots by 3, I'm not adding 2 IR spots.

If the bench size stays the same, we can add 1, maybe 2, if the majority are in favour.

There needs to be some downsides to having too many oft-injured players.

The large bench was also meant to make injuries easier to deal with.

I've had to deal with 4+ guys being on IR at once multiple times this season, too.

Just last week even.

Tough luck, but injuries are a factor in the NHL too.

Which is why you want 4 IR spots

Yeah, that does suck.

If we add two IR spots and drop bench spots by three, there are almost as many IR spots as bench spots—that's ridiculous.

There needs to be some adversity involved when having to deal with injuries.

EDIT: you did just pick up Gaborik, and time on the IR is expected every year with him.

I have Datsyuk and Gaborik (as well as Burrows, Edler, and Dupuis) all on IR in my other league, and it's a 5 bench spot 2 IR league, so I feel your pain.
