Edler, Kesler & Bo for Kunitz. |

Leafs have 12 wins in regulation, 8 of those came in Oct. That's right, 4 regulation wins since Nov. 1st. in other words 4 wins in regulation since signing Kessel and Dion to their extensions. |

Some advanced goalie stats from last year. - golfingsince
Interesting.
Not surprised by the Canucks negative scoring chance for/against rating last season, as the D was pretty underwhelming as a unit, and they were without Kesler for most of the season.
Impressive ranking for Lou, though. |

I'd like to see a more advanced stat for goaltending over sv %. IMO there are far too many variables for it to be considered a proper barometer of play. |

sv% on scoring chances seems to be a pretty good measure.
Not sure how he's tracking it, or where he's getting his stats, but if they're accurate it's more indicative of quality play than regular sv%, considering how many saves a game a goalie gets credit for when it's a weak shot (Raymondesque). |

I don't mind that stat at all, but it's missing data for sure. Interesting that there were only 7 goalies with a MSV % over .85 |

Yeah, you don't want to take too much from any single stat.
There are some pretty highly touted goalies below that .85% mark, too... |

Interesting stuff for sure, I remember reading it during the summer. What's alarming is how bad the Canucks struggle when it comes to generating and preventing scoring chances despite being a good shots for/against team. I'm not too surprised though, Gillis values strong corsi/possession players even if they have a historically low/mediocre on-ice shooting percentage, meaning they might out shoot the opposing team but likely won't out-chance them. It's the biggest knock I have against MG's "moneypuck" style. I wonder if the Canucks keep track of the same numbers when scouting prospects for drafts, I'm guessing with the way Gillis seems extremely high on Horvat that he's probably a player that has great possession stats in junior, hopefully his on-ice shooting percentage is good as well though. |
