Also, for the record, I never liked Carcillo from day 1. Hated him in Phoenix, hated him here, hated him on Chicago, didn't care about him in LA, and hate him as a Ranger. One thing that never changes about him: picking his fights. He had all of the chances in the world to go with Simmonds and declined. Then he goes right off a faceoff with Schenn. Late in the game, he was fine with giving Hartnell a shot while backing up right as the ref arrived. I would have had no problem if Rosehill sucker punched him and knocked him out cold.

I liked him while he was here, then when he left i saw him for the piece of poop he is. Must've been my Gorilla Monsoon's

I would have rather they started emery against tampa and mason last night.
- JoeRussomanno

I would have started Mason in both games then Emery in Buffalo.

Perhaps. I agree that we need to roll out Mason in all divisional games. Starting Emery was setting this team up for disaster. You knew the Rangers would come out strong to open the game. They've been playing well lately. The entire division has been playing well. This was a rough weekend because the entire division kept winning while the Flyers got no points in 2 games.

I got about 10 seconds of enjoyment from it - when Schenn threw Carcillo around like a rag doll.

Any chance they could simultaneously knock each other out for the season?

I watched the whole thing, but once the Rangers went up 3-0, it was over.

Rough weekend, but sometimes it's good to get bounced around a little, as a reminder to everyone that there are things that can be improved.

Tampa's a bit faster, a bit more skilled than the Flyers. That's why they give us trouble. Doesn't mean they can't be beaten, but it's tougher because they're not as small as Montreal.

The Rags are what they are: A team that, like the Flyers, can throw money at problems, for good and ill. They have good players and have underachieved thus far this season. I had little doubt that, over the second half, they're going to play better.

That doesn't mean the Flyers can't beat them. They could. Just have to play better -- hey, it's not a great excuse, but the Flyers did play Saturday, chased the game. That is a simple fact. The Rags got them on the second night of a back-to-back. While you want to be better than the Flyers were, the bottom line is that it is an advantage for the team that didn't play, especially if they get on the board early.

As far as Grossmann and Streit go...ideally, that's the third pairing. And we all know that can't happen until we get someone else in here who is a top-4 defenseman.

I don't know how the Flyers are going to do it, in bringing in that kind of player. I truly don't know. But if/when they do, that defense will look and play differently -- they'll be better.

Against better teams, it's tough asking what should be a third pairing to slow down some of the players they are trying to stop -- it's difficult. Sometimes, the bull is going to get you.

I just don't see it. His metrics are awful, which is understandable for a defensive defenseman. But he doesn't even face the toughest competition for the Flyers, which is also worrisome. I do dislike the pairing, because I think it magnifies each guy's weaknesses as much as it takes advantage of their strengths.

I'm not saying Grossmann isn't a NHL level guy. And the bad mix on defense is a big factor, IMO.

Grossmann has virtually zero margin for error, with him essentially being on the ice with 4 forwards all the time.

And as bad as his weekend was I'd like to see him shake it off. He's still one of my favorites.

Well, they already have Andy Delmore, although I hear he's switched his number to #32.

Yeah. In Philadelphia, it always comes back to wanting superstar players, then hating them when they're actually here.

And before that talk somehow takes root, in Claude Giroux's last five games:

1 goal in a win against Phoenix
1 goal in a win against New Jersey
No points in a win against Montreal
2 assists in a loss against Tampa Bay
No points in a loss against the Rangers

That damn fraud is stealing money again -- he had the nerve to not have a point 16 hours ago in a loss

I am a little surprised about the lengths everyone is going to in "hating" on Carcillo.

Understanding what he did when picking a fight against the Pens in the playoffs some years back, but is he really that bad in taking ill-timed penalties?

From the Ranger's standpoint, he is really a necessary evil has they have no fighters on the team. A lot of the guys play tough, but never drop the gloves. Knowing this gave other teams too much leeway in crossing the line with cheap shots.

Anyway, I know you guys aren't happy with last night's result, but having him on the Rangers will just make the rivalry a bit more fun...

Cheers...

Yes. Carcillo isn't an awful player, but he has stretches where he hurts a team as much as he helps them. He'll have stretches where he's a good guy, contributes and even draws penalties. Then Mt Moron will erupt and he'll hand the other team a 9 minute power play.
