Uhhhh. Ladd is only 4 months older than Bickell. They will both be 28. - Dannyboy
Ladd for Bickell would be fine with me. Even with the first. But adding TT (part of the Hawks future) is where it tips the scales in the wrong way. Thats why I mention age. If we want to keep living in the "glory days" of 2010 we will eventually end up being the Red Wings and having everyone retire at the same time. No bueno.

My guess is they won't get both Saad AND TT - and that they won't get Saad in any case. - StLBravesFan
Never implied Saad and the top prospect -
Interesting trade - but not sure Ladd is the guy that needs to go from WPG |

And here I thought you were referring to the OZ where the wizard lives, as some subtle dig to some of the posters who pop by. Never mind. |

Justifying staying up until 3 or 4 in the morning to watch the Hawks has been easier than it should be.
I've got the benefit of flying back to North America for a few months out of the year (university student and now grad student) and being able to watch hockey at a reasonable hour keeps me sane. - prd797
Sounds good, wish I also would have the possibility to do so... How long are you going to stay in Scotland? You had the Celtics avatar a couple of months ago, right? Great soccer team btw
But at least I soak up as much Hawks stuff as I can and go to see some live hockey here in Duesseldorf. Bad comparison, but better than nothing... |

I just started a grad degree at St. Andrews, where I went to school before a few years back. At minimum, will be in Scotland for at least another year.
And yeah, Celtic have been my favourite side since I was a kid. lot of great players have come through there at one point, though it is usually a jumping off point now for our younger players to become studs in better leagues. Still good fun to watch though.

Traded for a 3rd. Seems pretty cheap for Scrivens.
Dubnyk going to the Preds... Is that another sign Rinne may be done for this year or longer? Those labral tears can be extremely difficult to come back from - even for normal movement. For a goalie it may be impossible for full recovery. - steelhead
That was my first thought when I saw the post about this trade. Rinne was playing, so he had recovered from the original injury. However, he developed an infection in the hip and missed a lot of time with it (including another surgery to address the infection). I thought I'd read that he was on the ice again, but this trade makes me wonder about ol' Pecker.... |

Ah ok, so you have some more time in Europe. Yes, I like many players who started their career at Celtic or played there for some time (like Larsson, Petrow, etc.). I like Fortuna, but my soccer passion is Schalke. Teemu Pukki just moved to Celtic at the start of the season. How is he doing? He was one of the fan favourites here although he didn't play a lot... |

You are right, just checked Capgeek after posting. I thought his salary might have gone up over the course of the deal, but it looks to have stayed the same. Most of Nashville's FA signings have been misses so far it seems. - prd797
For cap purposes the salary is averaged over the course of the deal, and is usually listed on Cap Geek at the Annual Average Salary (or cap hit). The actual salary often changes over the course of the deal, but that only matters to the player, his bank, and his accountant (and is also available on Cap Geek). |

Inside joke with TG and myself I'll let you in on. TG has a man crush on Stalberg who he met at the beach wearing Stalberg'd number 25! - paulr
Great, thx for sharing that.
Perhaps Stalberg should wear another jersey now when I take a look at the numbers he's putting up in Nashville...

Larsson was the main reason I started following Celtic. The guy was an incredible player.
Pukki's struggled, after scoring a few goals in his first few appearances he hasn't really been in good form, and hasn't had many quality appearances of late. I want the guy to succeed, but I don't think he's been very confident at Celtic so far. A bad Champions League campaign by the entire club hasn't helped things either.
I think he's got plenty of time to put it all together. Puts in effort, hopefully he'll get rewarded with more time on the pitch and more goals. |

Isn't that the point. He is paying Bickell (barely even a 3rd line player now) about the same as Ladd. Ladd can easily shift into the top 6 now and tends to "bring it" every night. He is better than the player we saw in 10 (though not as good as the player we saw in 11).
With those knees who knows where Bickell goes from here? Thus the need for TT in the package.
Would be much better if they could send them Bickell and a couple of the older prospects like Morin and Pirri or Johns but you know every GM will zero in on TT. - steelhead
I don't see this going down for many reasons....The point is the Hawks are perceived to be stuck with Bickell so throw in an excellent prospect and then it should work....Bowman isn't going to pay $4 mill+ Ladd the same way he didn't do so for Vertseeg....
If Bickell turns out to be a bust Bowman will eat some salary and send him packing at some point is my guess....Probably too early to sign off on Bickell.
Sometimes it's not meant to be, Av's win in OT 3-2. Next stop for Bickell a scratch?

Yeah I looked at that specific contract's page on Capgeek, and it looks like salary and cap are the same for the duration of the deal. But as you say, doesn't really matter for the rest of us.
Hendricks is a slightly overpaid underperforming Bottom Sixer, and I'm sure Nashville is happy that his contract is somebody else's problem. |

Welcome.
On the rumor. Chevy is under immense pressure there. No way he can trade Ladd without what is perceived to be major pieces coming back.
Also, Ladd may have wanted to play there before but who says that is the case now? This could be one of those deals that also is for the benefit of the player - one that I think Chevy and many in Winnipeg feel has done what he could in a difficult room.
TT, Bickell and a first is steep but Ladd PROBABLY helps this lineup now and for the next 2-3 years to win cups then any of those 3 pieces. Long run it is probably a loser on paper but not if Ladd is the piece that helps win a cup this year or next.
Also BTW, I won the rumor pool I started yesterday. Can someone start a congratulations thread and a fund for my prize IMMEDIATELY.
- steelhead
Chevy is under pressure but his job is not in jeopardy yet...
Season tix holders are locked in there for a few years.

Really hard to tell on this one....Do we improve for this season and the next in exchange for giving away what might potentially be a new core piece for our long term future? The elite core of this team is part of what makes it so special, and eventually the core will need replenishing when guys like Hossa and Sharp wear down, and that is what TT may bring us. But because thats nowhere near a formality, it makes this proposal very intriguing. I say no, though its very close, because the wild card in the deal (that would also help us in the present, while alowing us to keep TT for the future) is the potential for Bickell to regain his form later in the season or the playoffs. Its a toss up, and i dont think teams that are already elite contenders need to mess with toss up trades like this. Not unless you're 100% sure you're getting a steal of a deal(like the Steeger trade). |

Yes, Larsson was awesome. As far as I can judge a great striker combined with a good character. Hated to see him go down with that cruel leg injury years ago
Then let's hope Pukki will do better. Definitely a player who deserves it.
We somehow made it to the next CL round. Although it's obvious we will crash out I will at least see both matches vs Real at home and in Madrid. Already excited...
Alright, gotta go in a couple of mins.

Fully agree with this, Al. Bickell was hurt at the end of the playoffs and spent the summer recovering. I suspect he wasn't yet in prime condition at the start of the season, and then was hurt again not too much later. We on the board are quick to jump to the conclusion that he's just lazy, but I'd be shocked if Stan would give up on him already. I believe Stan thinks Bickell will throw it down again in the post-season. This does not mean it is impossible that he'd trade Bickell, but I seriously doubt he'd give up TT as a "premium" for the Jets taking a "bloated" contract. |
