Probably would never happen in 100000000 years, but Callahan is on Ek's rumor chart as a potential trade target.
Man, now there is a guy that's worth a TT in my book. I love Callahan's game.
A guy can dream - teh_HAWKZ
wow, no way, that's a lot of high end skill going out for a lot of moderate skill and a ton of work ethic
if people balk at including TT for Ladd, you balk at TT for Callahan
lets put it this way, if you want to gauge a return for moving TT, use the bobby ryan/silfverberg trade
if you're going to move a very highly regarded prospect across the league, you want it to be for a person with proven offensive upside
a blue collar, grinding winger isn't it. those are much easier to come across than TT quality talent |

Well, we've got a couple interesting games coming up. Perhaps I'm just trying to get up for the games myself, but I think we're going to see strong efforts from the Hawks in both games. The Ducks are a serious Cup contender who are smokin' hot and have done well against the Hawks in the past few years. I believe that's gonna cause the Hawks motivation level to be high, much like the hot Kings came to town and got waxed. The Hawks know the Bruins are gonna be sky-high to play on Sunday, and I think the Hawks know they have to bring it.
I don't mean that these two games are an indicator of how they'd do against each other in a playoff series or that these are statement games. Just a couple factors that could and should affect the intensity level for these games. I am looking forward to these two. - mohel
I just put a call into Coach Q's office, told him to tell the team hit the gas tonight for my birthday. He said he'll see what he can do |

I would certainly hope that's what the Hawks did and do!
I find it amusing that that same people who want Zus run out of town on a rail because of his skating want to see Pirri and Morin, both average skaters, promoted to the Hawks' lineup. - paulr
I find it amusing that as ACTUAL results show, that the team actually earned more standing points and had the same PK % with Pirri playing then with Zus.
Handzus long peaked and is slowly regressing. On the obvious down side of career. It is what it is. Pirri, and Morin for that matter, are just beginning and will only improve with experience. There is obvious room for growth with experience. There are obvious talents and skills.
So if it is a jump ball as some want to point out, or 50/50, you go with the guy who has a higher ceiling. The player who will grow. In high school or College, if you have a senior and a sophmore at the same level, who do you play? Who do you give the games/reps to?
Though many want to shout from the mountain tops about all of Pirri;s deficiencies, repeating over and over something does not make it true. Especially when faced with the lack of physical video evidence to the contrary, or obvious lapses that cost his team points, let alone statistical ones, which all blow in the face the failure narrative.
It is natural for any young player to feel his way along, hit dry spells, but work through them, so long as they are not hurting the club. As much as I like Nordstroms game, he looked far more out of place than Pirri ever did.

Also on Eklund's rumor chart that are connected to the Hawks...
Tallinder 20%
Stempniak 20%
Hemsky 10%
As for Eklund connecting Callahan to the Hawks, he has him at a 100% that he stays in New York.
Also, it should be noted that Steve Gretzky Ott is listed at 100% that he stays with Buffalo.

Zus has been playing the same way ever since I can remember him with St.Louis and Philadelphia, which is to say a guy with very little speed but one who gets in the opponent's way, makes some very good hockey plays and occasionally lays his big frame on some defenceman. And I think that's the reason Q likes him because he knows how to play the NHL game. Like a very average middle inning reliever, Zus is munching minutes for the Hawks cost effectively during a long regular season.
Pirri and Morin - just as popular with fans as the 2nd string quarterback who they think would be much better than the starter who is playing ahead of them. Until they prove otherwise for an extended period of time they are minor leaguers to me. - RickJ
Sooooo......Zus is Antonio Alfonseca. |

That just harkens back to the previous debate of giving up TT for Ladd. For right now, TT is only a prospect with the potential to have high end talent. Whether or not he achieves said talent is something we do not know yet.
Callahan is a blue-collar player, but he's a blue-collar player with the ability to finish and to sacrifice himself for the team. Not to mention the intangibles of him being a leader. He's a heart player, which I guess I have an affinity for.
I do, however, agree with your comparison to Silfverberg/Ryan trade. IF we were to deal TT, that would be the kind of trade that I would look to for a comparison.
Just saying Callahan brings that extra depth in more ways than one rather than adding another star offensive player on a team that is already stacked with that kind of player.

Nordstrom is probably the next guy to get the call if they need center help....
Comparing him to any other center prospect in the hawks system....He has great hockey sense, seldom out of position, good on face offs, plays both sides, not afraid to hit, can play on the pk, and if not scoring can find other ways to contribute to the success of the team..... |

I still think those are the types Bowman targets. This team doesn't need a blockbuster, just depth and role players. |
