Refreshing point of view from a non-canucks fan. The issue is they're so caught up in trying to be more than they are. Canucks have always been a "skill" team, but since the boston series, they're trying to be a "Grit" team. Biggest example is the Hodgson trade. I like Kassian, a lot, but Hodgson fit the team mould. Horvat will fit the team mould, and shinkaruk should rejuvenate the skill aspect on the team if he can match up with some good line mates.
Teams get better when they stick to the plan. San Jose, LA and Anaheim never strayed away from their intended path, and that's why they're successful. That said, it's much easier for them to lose in those fan bases, because while they have loyal fans, they don't have fans like in Canada who will call for the GM's head if moves aren't made and their team isn't winning. All comes down to pressure, and patience.. and the SoCal teams lack the pressure from media that allows them to patiently stay on track. - lkeh73
Well said. There is definitely pressure in Vancouver. Never seen a city riot after it loses. Signing Brad Richardson brought some grit to the Canucks and find a few more quality people llike him and the Canucks could develop into a combo skill/grit team. |

Hey Jason, I didn't get to the end of you blog, it was a bit long, but I liked where you are going with it. Teams (or anyone really) shouldn't try and be something they're not, and the Canucks are NOT that type of team. I think you give too much credit to guys like Kassian or Weise as "tough guys", they're not really.
My problem with their two game spazz session, is that it came too late. If they were pissed about Brown bowling over Luongo, they should have taken care of it right there and then. This kind of pre-meditated "toughness" just takes them away from actually playing hockey to win. - 1970vintage
Can't really blame them for trying, though. Yes, they should've reacted during the game but at the time it was pretty clear that Brown was pushed into Lou. The crazyness started when the GM tried to blow it up beyond reason. It worked, he got the team (including Tort) to band together towards a common goal. One game and 2 points was worth it in my opinion, but the next game against the Ducks just went overboard...and that is all on Torts. |

I don't think so.
When you let emotions stew for a week and then try and exact revenge, it never works out. If you can't take care of your poop on the ice when it happens you should just move on and forget about it. |

Good point and I agree that they "lost" something in the Boston serie. Not sure why they felt a need to change some things around. |

Good article Jason, nice to read something that isn't filled with troll bait.
The Canucks remind me of a wounded dog, after a fight (losing to the Bruins).
They always need to be on the aggresive now, to show the other dogs in the dog park that they aren't going to roll over anymore.
I can't really blame them, but they need to keep their poop together a little more.
Maybe start to focus on scoring a freaking goal. Last 3 games, they managed 1 goal..... |

I also think they have been misusing the potential to incorporate ELC players into the lineup, thus causing them to need to sign a lot of mid-level contracts, which really don't make the team better. Signing Higgins for 4 years made no sense.. so many roster spots locked up that it doesn't allow much room for rookies to crack the team, and i believe horvat could've this year. Having him on the team would open up cap room to add a more expensive piece. Same with Corrado.. let the kid play, allow for him to learn. Cut Edler's salary, even if you have to retain a portion. Not enough offense.
When you have two goalies who can regularly hold other teams to 2 goals or less, you should be winning much more |

the fact that you have to attack the use of one word vs another shows you have nothing to say about the substance of the post. When are you guys going to get over yourselves? - arh777
Substance of the post? Brown and Hertl collided, unfortunate incident, and the basketball fan was pointing the finger at Hertl, which is pretty stupid.

The first game the Kings played in Phoenix after winning the Cup, Doan fought Mike Richards with about 5 minutes left in the game. Since we were there, it was fun to watch the Yotes fans get all giddy until they realized their best player would be sitting in the penalty box for the rest of the game. Thats when they started to get up and leave since they knew tthe Kings were going to win. Had a lot of fun that day

I am REALLY looking forward to seeing what Shinkaruk and Horvat bring to the table. I liked those picks a lot. From what I've heard about Horvat he is a fantastic leader. |

Oh give it a damn rest already. We kind of needed Stoll for the PLAYOFFS last year when your crap bag goon took his head off.

First of all I look at hockey from the 30k foot level. I don't put on the face paint and cheer like a 'tard for teams. I bet you wear a jersey with another mans name on it... GROW UP.
Why don't I go to your job and lay on the horn when I pull up to your window... just to be a PPwiener. |

In the same game Jordan Nolan was also taken on by Tom Sestito after a clean hit on Daniel Sedin. - Jason_Lewis
Good article. Even as a Kings fan, I would be hesitant to call Jordan Nolan's run at Sedin a "clean hit." I would call it a unpenalized, borderline charge that only wasn't called because Sedin moved out of the way at the last second and caused Nolan to miss. Even so, Sestito's actions at the next faceoff were a stupid overreaction that cost his team 7 mins of penalties. After the Vancouver antics at the opening faceoff, Nolan responded to "toughness" with more "toughness," and was simply trying to deliver the same message that Vancouver was trying to deliver....If you come after our captain (goalie in Vancouver's case), we're going to come after you and yours. IMHO, Nolan's refusal to fight was his attempt at keeping the Kings on their own game, and from having to play Vancouver's game, which was obviously more focused on retribution than on winning. |

30k foot level? Ahhhhhhhhh, yes, that explains a lot. By the way, Darryl Sutter's son has Down's Syndrome so please stay at the 30K foot level and stop using the term "tard" in such a negative connotation. Some of us have grown up. |

Actually, the term "retardation" is a medical/scientific term describing those people who have Downs Syndrome or other brain related conditions . Some uncaring and unthinking people have shortened the term and use it as an insult to others. No on has hurt me. Just thought that I might help you change your choice of words by using a true story that has a hockey connection. You seem to have a significant amount of negative feelings as examples by your posts. It appears that maybe you are the one who has been hurt and thus your need to strike out at others. Or, you could just be a frustrated Canucks fan. |

A fan wears a Jersey with another mans name on it. I don't own one piece of NHL licensed apparel... From any team. That's just dumb... 'tarded if you will.
I believe the scientific name for it IS Downs Syndrome. Just because some douchenozzle decided to slap a name for an idiot on to an actual condition is not my fault.
Next thing you are going to cry about is being called an a$$hole instead of a rectum.
Your inflammation will most likely subside when your team gets knocked out by the Blackhawks.
Unless you are a terminal a$$hole.... There's no cure for that.

Ahhhh, yes, a soccer fan on a hockey blog. Thank God the Constitution guarantees your freedom to believe and write what you think is correct. You can only try so much to help someone grow and understand the good things in life. When you finish your GED, let me know, we can meet at a Kings game, I will buy you a beer, salute your accomplishment, and do it all without using derogatory terms that we all used when we were in grade school. Once you get that GED, you will be ready to have "grown up" conversations and can run with the adults. I am a little concerned with your proclivity to use terms referring to the human anal cavity. Frustrated proctologist? I am going to put on my "Robitaille" jersey tonight, watch the Kings play a great game of hockey, enjoy all of the memories LA Kings hockey has helped me create with my kids and friends, savor being there when they won the Cup, and look forward to more great memories when we go to the Stadium game later this month. Meanwhile, I am sure you will enjoy staying in your studio apartment, eating top ramen and watching "Dancing With The Stars" reruns. Go Kings GO!!! (by the way, what team do you support or at least root for? Just curious). |
