Why would Toronto want him? - PhillySportsGuy
They are desperate for a real center. And we are desperate for Defense. Sounds like perfect trade partners. Gardiner? Also think Nashville was pushing hard for Vinny before he signed here. Maybe get Ellis? All I know is Vinny wants to stay on the East coast. He said he didnt want to be "the man" thus why he signed in Philly. But it appears that not wanting to be "the man" has made him "odd man out". |

Try suggesting Gardiner for Vinny in the Toronto thread and gauge the response. |

Vinny's not suited for run and gun anymore... you think Nonis wants him slowing down the tempo of Kessel/JvR? |

A line of G, Vinny and Jake and you'll have them all on the perimeter waiting to take a shot. Raffl goes to the net and often drags 2 or 3 defenders with him.
1 so-so game and he's persona non grata. |

Why? It's not like Toronto's checking it, except to compare hits maybe. |

I don't know what Nonis wants. But agreed, he's a useless player now. |

This.
Although I'd put G on the left so Jake can stay on the right. - Tomahawk
In an ideal world, we'd run the third line of Read-Couturier-Downie as our two-way shutdown line and be aggressive with a fourth line of Hall-Vinny-Scoring Winger TBD.
There's no reason on this Earth that you HAVE to play Rinaldo or Rosehill. Lecavalier would still get his PP minutes and you could actually play that line 10-12 minutes at even strength, until you figure out exactly what you're going to do with Vinny, long-term.
I was in favor of his signing, and still am. He can still play. But he's not a winger, and he has average speed, at best. He's a center who needs to play with scoring wingers who can skate, where his hockey sense allows him to play the trailer and pop into holes.
The guy can still play.

Bozak centers JVR and Kessel, though.
Vinny is wasted as a wing, but I don't know what to do with him since BSchenn seems to be thriving as a center. It would solve a lot of problems if BSchenn could be the 1LW. I don't think Raffl is cutting it there anymore. |

Vinny for Gardiner would leave Toronto with AAV Space of -2,654,167. |

I'm not sure where this team should put vinny. Downie played one shift with read and couturier and it ended up being their best shift of the night. You can't break up schenns line and every time vinny plays with jake and g they struggle defensively. Not saying we need to get rid of him at all costs but he does appear to have no good place in the lineup right now - PhillySportsGuy
I would play Vinny at third line center with Read and Downie. Move Couturier to 4th line center with McGinn and Rinaldo when he is healthy. Or play Vinny #1 center and move G to the wing. Play Raffl with Couturier and Read. Downie could play on the 4th line. |

Weber was awesome. What do you guys think it would take to get him? I thought B.Schenn, Coburn, Morin and Laughton plus two 1st's would be close.
I think he is completely worth it. Not going to happen but fun to speculate. |

It would take a time machine and a guy that could make the Predators ownership less financially solvent.
Preds ownership went into their own pockets to swallow that contract Holmgren laid on them. I suspect they are pot committed at this point. |

No doubt.
H just shouldn't be supplanting any of these wonderful young centers we have. The evidence is strong that Baby Schenn and Coots are best in the middle. And G you want handling the puck as much as possible.
Vinny as a 4th-line C, under a coach that doesn't seem to care to play his 4th-line much, makes me sad. |

I hope this is sarcasm. I mean Toronto was right there with Montreal, Nashville, and the Flyers in the race to sign Vinny. He has a 4 year deal, that considering the cap going up isnt going to kill any team for what he brings. Toronto FANS might not like it, but Gardiner for Vinny is a good deal for both teams. Put the Cap aside, moves could be made. |

Yeah. It makes me sad, too.
I'm extremely glad that Baby Schenn's breaking out, and I absolutely don't think it's good for him or the team to make him move since he's doing just that.
But Vinny came here because we didn't know what the hell we were going to get out of Schenn or Couturier. We had no idea what those guys were going to produce.
I don't know what to do with Vinny now. I admit it. But if Baby Schenn wasn't producing, we'd have been screwed not to have him.
Tough situation, at the moment.

Off top of my head Im thinking Couturier, Laughton, Voracek and maybe 2 firsts? I don't know, not good at this. |
