So there are about 27 other good teams out there. Gotcha - Just5
That changes the fact they are now 5, after tonight , above 500 and in the thick of the playoff hunt how?
Am I frustrated they lost tonight..sure..
Am I frustrated they have not been playing as well recently..yah..
Am I willing to call them a bad team, nope..

Yeah...the margin for error is just so damn thin with them.
Don't get me wrong: I still think they are good. I really think they are good enough to do damage in the playoffs. But there are moves that they could make that I wish they would try to see if they can get that margin for error a little higher.
For instance, you could play Gus. That doesn't cost you an arm and a leg in trade, or a huge free agent contract for a 33-plus-year-old player.
Gus couldn't be worse than what we got on that third goal, that's for damn sure - AllInForFlyers
Gus is 25. His time to show what he is really made of is now. While I tend to lean on the side of him being too undersized and poopty in his own zone to offset whatever offensive strengths he may have, they need to figure it out now.
I would rather do that, instead of rolling the dice on him blindly next year in the top 6. Next season should be the time for Alt and Lauridsen to get their chances whenever possible.
Even though I am a fan, I guess I'd sit Grossmann if you are looking at the long term future of the team. Even though I think others on that D deserve it more. |

Haha I just don't want them to be mediocre for years. I hated and laughed at the Leafs when they did that.
Look, as much as a few of us preach patience, even if it will cost some of Giroux's best years, I think the majority of us know its not happening. A deal will be made, and they will try to make a run at it.
Just no more guys on the wrong side of the career, and contracts that no other team would even touch. That's all I ask. - flyer_nutter
Man, I don't even know what they should do anymore.
Nobody's got cap space, every GM is afraid of losing a deal, they all think that every mobile defenseman should cost as much as a healthy Bobby Orr in assets for trade...
I don't even know what they should do anymore, which is probably the clearest signal that they'll have to wait

my g/f bought me a Flyers Mr. Potatohead at Christmas ... I put it together a couple of weeks back, and we've been playing like poop since.
I'm taking this stupid thing apart right now and putting it where all the other unused presents she gives me go: the attic.

they're an average team with some big flaws. inconsistent and have a hard time playing with all facets in sync at the same time. |

I think a deal for Buff will be there in the off-season. Realistically I do believe that's what goes down.
The one thing though, if you want positives. A lot of teams in this league complain about the same stuff we do. Take a quick look through the boards of other teams. There are your elite teams definitely, and then you have the rest.
I just want them to be on the right track, with the right people leading the horses. Its hard to be elite for years with this salary cap, every team goes into droughts for the most part. Or the majority do. Its being able to realise that, and work toward the future. Instead of blindly chasing that big shiny trophy like a headless chicken.
They will return, they have too much money and are a attractive destination not to do so. The window closed with the demise of Pronger and decline of Timonen. Just have to build it right, for when the time comes again. |

i haven't promised anything. i've been waiting since 1980. believe me, i've been more than patient with this (frank)ing organization. it's unfortunate that every single SCF they've been in since 75 has been against a dynasty in the making or one in the middle of it. and the few times they lost in the ECF when they should have won, like 2000 and 2004 for example, would have faced teams not in that category that were beatable. - hammarby31
That paragraph sums up the last 35 years of some of our lives...painful memories, some of them.
Can see Stevens v. Lindros like it was yesterday, as well as Rusty Fedotenko busting our asses in Game 7 and knowing we weren't going to get a goal in the third due to clutch-and-grab

Hopefully at the deadline we can pick up a Dman and top line forward. I'd like to see Moulson on our top line. Top line is lacking goal scorers. Raffl has done well but still not top line material and G and Voracek have a pass 1st mentality |

If you kind of want another team to compare to. Look at Vancouver, their window as well, is going to really start to shut as that D continues to age and the forwards do as well.
The league is set up to be organic, you cant fight it. Unless you are a team like Detriot, Chicago or Pittsburgh that have/had generational talents to build around for years. |

YEAH!!! That made me feel a little better. Pronger's injury changed everything...I know that, and accept that.
Nice job, man! 2016...it's not that far away, right? There are going to be nights like this, but if we do it right, we'll be OK for a few years to come.

Well part of (frank)ing doing it right is not signing anchor contracts that will hurt you down the line. Which they will, and there is no kum-bah-yah to deny that.
Honestly, Im 23. That's my biggest thing haha. I have hopefully at least 40 years. |

You're right -- I don't dispute that, at all. It's been fun, since The Season That Shall Not Be Named, because the Flyers have played some good hockey between 2008 and 2012.
But the rot in the organization...we needed two more drafts of high picks, in all rounds, to fix all the rot that makes you wind up with a 56-point season that we'll never speak of again

they're the kind of gifts that a non-hockey fan would give to a hockey fan, thinking that it would be appreciated as unique.

giroux's entering his prime, or maybe he's in it right now...i just don't want those prime years being wasted on an incomplete team, and that's probably what's going to happen. - hammarby31
Nah, we can draft and develop and then complain about Hagg, Morin and Gostisbehere when they don't come up from the AHL and play like Duncan Keith...because we celebrate a guy one week and poop on his plate the next.

That season was needed.
They were arrogant as hell. Signed the Twin Towers to big contracts before that season began. The season showed them that change was needed, in how they approach the game. I hope, and to a degree believe they are also being shown now that relying purely on money and FA is not the way of the future either.
It could return though... With the cap going up so much. Those bottom teams wont be able to compete. |
