They are pissing away valuable points. My problem with this team is the lack of 60 minute effort. |

although the 60 minute effort is a problem, I kind of think it's overblown because of how slow the team is. The 'effort" looks a lot worse than it is, imo.
If and when they add 2 or 3 speedier/faster/quicker players the team as a whole will appear to be a much harder working group. |

My problem is several tiers.
They have talent, but get outworked. They have a coach that talks about discipline and accountability, and holds 4 or 5 guys accountable and rarely if ever holds a star player's feet to the fire. They use line combos and defense pairs that don't work well together, and make no changes until they lose a couple. They continuously use guys out of position because of "hot streaks".
It's no better in the front office. The Ohhhhh Shiny approach to adding players remains and the defense is a tire fire.
The only good thing is that they have a winning record through sheer talent. They're not 3 years away, they're a couple of players AND much better discipline away. It's not just avoiding penalties, although that is huge. it's making smart plays, backchecking hard, not forcing low percentage plays and refusing to get outworked.

Nah, we can draft and develop and then complain about Hagg, Morin and Gostisbehere when they don't come up from the AHL and play like Duncan Keith...because we celebrate a guy one week and poop on his plate the next. - Jsaquella

I agree: They shouldn't be three years away. They really shouldn't.
But damn if I can figure out how they're going to get two defensemen in here without giving up some serious assets -- even the trade today, Del Zotto for Klein, is one we can't make because we only have one in-his-prime defenseman who can skate

It's not even the complaining as much as the bi-polar nonsense.
Did I beat Laviolette needing to be fired into the ground? Absolutely. But I didn't waver from week to week on it.
And if I get proven wrong, I'll usually admit it and own up to it. But it's annoying that a bad streak means a guy sucks and will never produce or play well again.

Honestly, Luke Schenn would be more attractive to me than Klein, if I was the Rangers. But Klein will fit well for them.
They have a defenseman who would help, rotting away in the Shelley Suite. There's no way Erik Gustafsson should be sitting. Now, tonight, after Schenn's miscue, he'll sit for Gus, and Grossmann who had a horrible couple of weeks before a pretty good outing tonight, will remain in.
That's part of my issue. Grossmann will have two weeks of awful play. Schenn will have one bad night and boom, bench.
But I digress. Play Gus, he fills one hole you need filled. |

pretty easy to waver sometimes, no?
We are used to a much better, more consistent product, and the lack of effort isn't just from game to game, it's period to period, or even shift to shift, there is no excuse for getting outworked every night damn near, but that's more maddening then the fire tire D or the bad streaks. |

not a whole lot Schenn could do on that, it's not like a slow forward was coming at him, I would have preferred he just took the penalty & dumped Gerbe
this was a frustrating night! |

I'd always have played Gus, but the problem is exactly what you're saying: They won't. They just won't freaking do it. Or if they do, as soon as he makes a mistake, he's back in the Shelley Suite.
That's why I say they're going to need two: It's clear that, just like Tye McGinn, they're just not going to play them. I don't know why they won't, because it must be something that, as a fan, I just don't understand.

It IS easy to waiver.
But you just have to be patient to see trends and look hard to recognize things. It's easier to say that a guy sucks than to look more deeply into what's going on. |

it's kind of how like rush refuses to play anything from caress of steel, which of course has my favorite song of theirs on it. |
