It is -- I see folks are (in hindsight, I might add, because he's playing well) calling some of us out for saying we'd consider trading Wayne Simmonds, but there's only two guys on the 50-man roster I wouldn't trade for a defensive upgrade.

We either give to get, or we wait. I understand both sides, but with how painful they are to watch in their own end, I don't know why anybody feels like it's wrong to want to see that upgraded at damn near any cost

The kind of guy they need is likely not available, and the guys that are dangling out there probably aren't the kind to solve the team's myriad defensive issues by themselves... so that's why I'm a proponent of the wait-and-see and/or set-sights-lower options.

I understand this line of thinking, and it is likely correct. I promise, I get it -- I've said as much.

But I think it's a little over-the-top for those of us who believe that defense needs to be fixed now are now completely crazy -- there are bad moves that could be made, sure. But standing pat is not guaranteed to be a GOOD move, right?

Michael Del Zotto just got flipped for a guy six years older than him, so I would say that it's pretty clear that not every team believes that nurturing youth is always the way to go.
