i know someone mentioned Johny Gudreau a few days ago...Could the flyers pick him up ala Schultz this summer? Might add some skill to the phantoms and the who knows.
2013 WJC Highlights:

That was me, and that's essentially what I was getting at with that post a few days ago.
It's a wait and see situation. He "supposedly" isn't very comfortable in Calgary and would rather play much closer to the East coast. The Flyers would be an immediate favorite given he is from the area and is a Flyers fan himself.
He has actually said that he "doesn't want a Justin Schultz type situation", but was asked a question pertaining to his status with the Flames and his future as a pro. I wouldn't expect him to say anything else at this time.
Going to have to wait until after the season's over. Kid is averaging 2 points a game right now in D1-NCAA hockey and is likely a shoe-in for the Hobey Baker, which he should have won last year depending on who you're asking. |

Am I the ONLY person still begging for Grossman to be scratched for Gus?
Timonen-Mezsaros
Coburn-Gus/Grossman
Streit-Schenn
I want to see these pairings regardless.

I'd prefer a swap out of L.Schenn for Gustafsson. |

Curious to hear what all of you think of the following:
I don't see any way that the Flyers, with their issues on D, are even a dark horse contender for the Stanley Cup this year. Yes, they may make the playoffs, but it's highly doubtful, at least to me, that they would even win one round.
With that being said I propose the following:
Ask Timonen and VL if they would be receptive to a trade to a contender or in VL's case a short list of teams of his choosing. Then move them for the best available package of picks and prospects.
Trade Downie, I'm not sure he worth re-signing anyway.
Trade Grossmann. A contender looking for a defensive dman/penalty killing shot blocker just might give you a late 2nd for him.
Trade Mezsaros for what you can get for him, with his injury history I can't see them even considering to re-sign him.
This would leave the following lineup
Raffl-Giroux-Voracek
Hartnell-Schenn-Simmonds
McGinn or Read-Couturier-Read or Akeson
VDV or Rosehill-Hall-Rinaldo
Coburn-Streit
Gustafsson-Schenn
Lauridsen-Alt
Gill
Mason
Emery
Take the lottery pick and the acquired picks and use some of that to try and land one good dman. Sign another solid depth dman with mobility in free agency. Add Laughton and one solid free agent winger and continue to build from within.
Thoughts? - BiggE
I could only see them doing something that drastic if they fall way out of the play off race by the TDL. And with the tight race in the east I have a hard time seeing that happen. There could be 8-9 teams scrambling for the wild card spots in the east.
If they have a shot at the play offs then Kimmo and Grossmann won't be going anywhere.
Mez could be traded if someone gives a decent offer (late 2nd rounder?).
I sincerely doubt VL is going anywhere, even if they do tank in the standings. To make a big free agent signing and then turn around and look to trade the player would be unusual.
Downie, who knows. I loved his game when he came here with Read and Couts. He has struggled lately. I think let's see how he finishes the year. If they are out of it by TDL and he isn't going to resign then sure, get whatever you can.

I was just thinking about Schenn getting embarrassed by Gerbe yesterday. Can he ever improve his skating or will be always get that slow? - 2Real
Jesus I don't care who the dman was in that situation, Gerbe wasn't being caught. |

No, you are not.
I really want to see Gus back in.
Not certain the best way to do it, but maybe rotate him in for a few games, giving Big Nick a day off here and there. I would also give Timmo a rare game off or two particularly after the Olympics. Mez could be part of the rotation, even though he is hot right now.
Personally despite his struggles I would play Luke Schenn every day.
Also Streit should play every day I think, but maybe see how he does away from NG? |

Other than Kimmo and Coburn, it really doesn't matter who plays. They all have large limitations. I don't think rotating them is going to help the team. It won't allow any of them to find a groove. |

I offered Holmgren's dented bike, Clarke's false teeth, Rosehill, and the future considerations of Ed Snider's next wife to Nashville for Weber but for some reason, Poile won't return my calls. - BiggE

I think what you state here about not letting them get in a groove is true and it is the reason Berube is staying with them.
Like I mentioned I'm not sure the best way to do, it but I want to see Gus playing every game, they need to figure out if he has a future with them. |

I think we see Homer moved up into a Luukko position, Hexy takes over as GM and hires a new coaching staff and then we see some magic at the draft. |

I think the problem is that the organization wants them to make the playoffs this year. They aren't playing for the future. They are playing for right now. |

A very likely scenario. Especially if they fail or get get embarrassed in the playoffs.
Thanks mochoson for getting Gaudreau in my head. Now i cant wait till this summer.
Maybe they pick up a Girarardi or Pitkanen who knows? one can dream. |

It's gonna cost them a 2nd line winger and Geoff Sandersson. |
