I think your confusing the term Geek and Nerd. Geeks arent necessarily smart. - youarewrong
I guess. People never used those terms when I was in high school. They were replaced with 'loser' |

The JVR for Schenn trade, given the ages, was at least a developmental type trade, consistent with longer term team building, as opposed to mortgaging the future by trading prospects/picks/young players for proven (read: over 30) vets.
To his credit Holmgren (and by extension, Ed) hasn't made those young for old moves in a while...so, maybe there is some modicum of patience there. - exlund
True, its the free agent signings and allocation of cap dollars that frustrate me. I can live with VL or Streit, but not both. Of the 2 Streit bugs me more as Gustafsson should be playing in that spot right now. |

I actually really liked Streit when he was in Montreal and from what I saw initially at his time for the Islanders.
Saw him here and there after, but didn't think he dropped off so much. |

VL bugs me more because he was a luxury signing. This team already has 3 young centers and another that will be up next season in Laughton. Why couldn't they look to add a nice 3rd line player to play with Read and Couturier? Someone on a shorter term deal. Now they leave themselves with little wiggle room this offseason. At least Streit fills a need moving forward as this team won't have a PP quarterback if Kimmo retires.
Edit: I didn't like either signing. |

I have no problem with Vinny. He adds leadership, and there was no guarentee that Schenn was going to step up the way he has. Besides, as someone on here always says, its never a problem to have too many centers. This openes up someone for a trade for a need (sniper or defense) without creating a whole in the lineup. |

you need defensemen. you guys ca stay patient all you want, but that player is not currently in the organization |

The back end is way to slow, to many of the same style defenceman. They lack the ability to move the puck out of their own zone efficiently or get a shot on net from the point hurts this team every night. |

VL is the kind of move you make at the TDL to get a good team over the hump -- like Ron Francis going to the Pens. It's definitely not the kind of move you make when you have three sub-25 stud centers, and huge question marks everywhere else. |

I think we need 1 defenseman. I think we have a good mix of guys that could turn out to be pretty good... just not in the next 4 years. Gostisbere, Morin, Hagg, Alt, Konan, and Laurdisen all have the ability to become NHL defenseman.
Right now when Timonen and Meszaors are gone, they need to be replaced by faster, puck movers. And 1 of them needs to be of the higher end type of player. |

So you somehow knew that Schenn and Couturier were going to be studs after the last season they had. I know I was concerned, and was very happy Vinny signed. |

I guess I was one of the few who wanted Schenn to play center this season.
There's a caveat with "It's never a bad thing to have too many centers". It's a bad thing if the centers can't play wing at the same level.
Essentially, the Flyers paid 2nd center money for a third line winger. |

with that one big add and a few smaller but correct additions, i dont think you guys need 4 years to be really good though. and im sure you have some nhl caliber guys in that mix though, and im sure you never know what could happen, but i really dont see that one front line guy in that batch. |

Schenn always played much better at center than wing. They also kept forcing Briere on his wing. I wanted to see him play a season with true wingers. I, originally, wanted Vorcek on his line, but he's find a nice spot with Simmer and Hartnell.
Couturier was, obviously, going to stay at center for this season and just about his entire career. |

We got the best UFA available at a cap friendly hit. I'm happy with it. |

I don't think our defensive prospects are that far away from joining the team. Just because they aren't in their prime, doesn't mean they can't contribute.
I don't want to compare our guys to Maata, but he's shown that defensive prospects can still contribute without being in their prime. |

Gostisbere is a hobie baker finalist. Top College Defenseman. And Morin definatley has top line potential. |

So if Mason plays well this season and the Flyers can sign Ryan Miller to a 'cap friendly rate', should they do it?
It was a luxury signing when this team has other areas that needed help. |

If the goal is to win July 1, maybe you could make a case that the Flyers accomplished that. I'd rather make moves that lead to a Stanley Cup... not continue the endless carousel of big name centermen. |

Absolutely. If you can get Miller on the cheap, and Stolarz in the system, then you can trade Mason to Edmonton for like Yakupov.... No Brainer. |

You and Yakupov. You love him!
I'm not saying on the cheap. Say Miller is worth $7.5 over 4 years and you can get him for $7M over 4 years? Would you rather get him or use that money to get Girardi or a #4 defenseman and top 9 winger. |
