But we have Vinny and Striet for another 4 years. What's the problem? - mayorofangrytown
It becomes a problem if you are in an outdoor game. Playing these guys on the big club will really hurt the depth of your alumni team. |

Looks like we aren't winning again until late February... Not good enough to make the playoffs not bad enough to get a top 10 pick. Philly problems. - mayorofangrytown
Last years team was plenty awful enough.... Thank god for that winning streak at the end of the season! Flyers rode that wave of momentum right into this season! |

It's easy to say we should get better defenseman, but you need to give to get. Give me an example of what you'd like to do. Some proposals of who you want to move and for which defenseman. - PhillySportsGuy
Rundblad.
It shouldn't take more than Downie and a pick.
The guy isnt a superstar but he can move a puck out of the zone, which this team cant seem to do.
Pheonix needs forward depth. Rundblad is behind OEL and Yandel. Its a deal that makes sense. |

That's if you believe they really signed him to be a protected 3rd-pairing howitzer, and not as a solution their puck-moving/transition woes. - Tomahawk[/quote]
I feel sorry for people who felt he would help in that department. I saw him as a third pairing guy who will play the point on the PP when Kimmo retires. |

They will be a lottery pick team in the draft - Marc D
Not to be nit-picky, but that term doesn't mean much anymore.
Fourteen teams will have a chance to pick first overall. |

They're alright. Not terrible but not great. They are a fringe playoff team. They will be one of the last out or one of the last in.
I just don't see why they need to make a reactionary trade right now just for the sake of it. If it improves the team, then go ahead. I just don't think they should make a guy available and just take the best offer. Thats just not good management. - PhillySportsGuy
Agree.
Never make a trade out of emotion. And only if if helps the this team for years to come. No trades to make this team better in the short term in an attempt to push them into the PO's to save the GM's job at the expense of the future. |

even if that's true it's right where you don't want to be. they specialize in bad management so they won't be moving up toward great unless they start acquiring picks and prospects and getting rid of many of the current players. - hogweed
Many of the players? Which ones do you want to get rid of and what do you expect to get for them.
You guys make broad statements, but it means nothing without examples. |

The money would seem to indicate that they expected him to bring a bit more than that. His cap comparables are all top-pairing dmen, for the most part.

Flyers are in a different league then Boston - Marc D
But they weren't -- they were 5-2-2 in their last nine games against them.
But, of course, in this season where the defense just blows, it looks like they've never beaten them in the history of hockey.
My questions:
WHAT THE (frank) happened to Luke Schenn? Seriously? He was maybe the best defensemen on the team last year, especially down the stretch, and on merit -- he played well. Now, he probably shouldn't even be playing! What happened to this guy? What happened?
How the hell did Nicklas Grossmann appear to get slower? He's not even 30! He's not even 29! He wasn't this awful last year? What the hell happened to this guy?
I've been hard on Meszaros, but you know what? He had back surgery, shoulder surgery. I might've been too hard on him, and I've owned that.
But this team wouldn't look this bad if Schenn was even half the player he was last season, or Grossmann.
Their regression is KILLING US.

Trading Vinny back to TB at the draft. - mayorofangrytown
I think there are restrictions on a bought-out guy returning home - so you may have to wait. Although it could be a year after buy-out, and I can't remember the date they cut Vinny loose. |
