The offer from Edmonton was three 2nd rounders. i could see Coburn fetching a nice return, or maybe packaged with a forward to add a legit number one/top pair guy. - Jsaquella
That offer from Edmonton was ridiculous -- I was watching the draft, and I remember Homer looking totally baffled after talking to MacTavish, and it had to be because Homer was thinking "Am I nuts or did I just get offered three maybes for a 22-minute a night Top 3 defenseman?"

Difficult to win a cup with a very young defense. I think it's, at least, an intriguing deal for both sides. If you're the Bruins, you never know when the window will close. Chara will eventually show signs of decline and Krejci has had concussion issues in the past.
They may want to strike while the irons hot. Plus, they have quite a few young defenseman and the extra first round pick. - PhillySportsGuy
Makes a lot of sense, until you starting talking about Hamilton, who's the heir-apparent to Chara. I don't see them ripping up future plans just b/c Seidenberg's out for the year. There's bound to be good dmen they can add at the TDL w/o giving up Dougie. |

You people are going to trade Coburn and a pick for a young D-man.
Fine.
But no one dare female dog about how the defense sucks for the next two to three seasons. |

No doubt, Coburn could actually net a decent return. He's just really really hard to replace though, so unless a better future dman is coming back, you really can't afford to move him. - Tomahawk
I'm not saying I would; it actually hadn't crossed my mind. I was just reading the Hamilton for Coburn discussion, and it actually dawned on me that Coburn's value around the league, with his ability to skate, his age, his usual ability to stay healthy and play on a Top 4 pairing...that guy probably has some very real value.

THe problem for the Oilers is that their bargaining chips are all significant pieces. Either very high picks or top prospects. If they had a mid-first round pick, I'm sure they would have offered that. They can't offer a top 5 pick for Coburn though. |

If you can get Hamilton, then you go ahead and make that deal and suck it up. |

What if it was Coburn and a 2015 first round pick? Would that work for Boston? |

Homer was probably thinking that Coburn's worth much more than 1.5 Pavel Kubinas. |

Slightly ups the odds, but probably still too rich for them. |

I don't have the stats to back it up, but in recent years it sure seems like the Flyers struggle mightily in the weeks leading up to the Carnival. |

As a flyer fan, would you pull the trigger on that deal. Keep in mind that that 2015 pick could be pretty high because Coburn would be gone and Timonen likely wouldn't be returning. Our defense would

Didn't you just trade for Hamilton?
How about if they offered Joe Morrow and their 1st in 2014 for Coburn? |

People always equate penalty minutes to toughness and physical play, but these Flyers aren't really physical. Most of their penalty are just undisciplined. It's not like they intimidate other teams. They just hook and grab them. |

Huh. You think so? I respect that era and what they accomplished, but I've long felt that they are a different team with regard to what they put on the ice.
Bob Clarke had trouble picking defensemen and goalies. We all know that. And they almost always have a guy who can fight on the roster.
But even last year, they were going without a true enforcer until that stretch of games where Giroux was getting roughed up, Voracek fought, then boom, Jay Rosehill was a Flyer. |

Well you'd have Hamilton as well and still the possibility of putting a deal together with one of their centers to acquire another top 4 dman |

Two-way dman, skates well, moves the puck with aplomb, originally Phoenix draft pick. |

Astor wine and spirits in NYC, in honor of Robert Burns day, is having a 15% off sale on all single malts.
Good chance to stock up to get through the second half of the Flyers season.
