I wanted to touch on this point. These young forwards are still learning how to play in the NHL. Not the game itself, but learning that they are not head and shoulders above everyone else in their league, as they have been their entire lives. And that they need to learn how to give maximum effort ALL THE TIME in order for them to be successful. On the forecheck, ON THE BACKCHECK, knowing their assignments. Learning how to provide support. learning how to overcome adversity.

We constantly harp on the defense for being too slow (and they are), but to me, it is the play of the forwards at both end of the ice that makes this team stop or go.

They need to realize that it is HARD to play the way they need to play to be successful as individual players and as a team. They need to learn this or they will always be middle of the pack. ALWAYS.

THe upcoming schedule will either be a great confidence booster, or a season killer. Its going to be hard to catch up if they falter. Hope they do their best or at least keep up with the rest of the Metro(shouldnt be too hard to do)

What this team needs to do is make impulsive decisions. Those things always lead to success in hockey and life.

Part of me doesn't want them to get TOO over confident. Because then I think they get lazy. The way this team is constructed, the forwards HAVE to work harder than the other team night in a night out. Then they must not forget that it is their hard work, and NOT their talent, that is making them successful.

Is there a present day Adam Oates that we can sacrifice a few 1st rounders for? How about Vanek for Morin, Hagg, Laughton, and our next 2 1st rounders?

That is, after we jettison Coburn, Grossmann, Schenn, and Hartnell for low-round picks and replace them with Alt, Lauridsen, Manning, and Akeson.

It's amazing that even after hitting a hard reset, and after two CBO mulligans, that this team is still a royal mess on the ice. The architect of this team seems to be building the house based on napkin sketches.

As The Simpsons proved, all you need are 21 nails and some creative thinking to build house.

Granted, that house collapsed after the first walkthrough, the toilet was in the kitchen, the hallway shrank, the floor was dirt...so, yeah.

Whats amazing is that the Flyers would use at least one CBO every year if it didn't count against the cap.

Where were all of you the other night. The crazies were running wild. "We need to trade for Buff, trade for Rundblad and sign Vanek in the offseason!"

Edit: Oh and Grossmann needs to go to because he had a bad month.

I got into an argument with a few people who believed any time a player has a bad 3 week stretch, he should be benched.

I'm actually thinking of taking a break from this site for a while. There's a few people on here (not you, Tomahawk) that are so inept that it actually makes me angry. And it's for the exact reasons Bill stated. They just like to be miserable and disappear during a good stretch. Yes, I've said some things to these people that were out of line, but their idiocy just actually makes me angry because I actually LOVE this team as opposed to loving to hating them. They're almost as bad as WIP-bred Eagles fans.

I DISAGREE AND YOU'RE STUPID!

Your best posting days are long gone and now you're only here because Meltzer likes you so much. Once Eklund's gone and we get a REAL owner in here, you'll be benched or, better yet, traded to another blog.

I know. I couldn't even hang around the site much yesterday because so many people frustrated me.

There are way too many people who think the grass is so much greener on other teams. That their players are so much better.

There are also too many people who feel the defense is always to blame and that defenseman can only be measured by points.

Thats unfortunate. I just signed an 8 year extension and my no trade clause doesn't kick in until 2015.

Maybe if we tank hard enough, we can trade you along with a good prospect and high pick to another team and they can use a CBO on you.

Agreed. That being said, what would you give up for Despres or Maata in a world where we trade with Pittsburgh?

They don't need to trade for Byfuglien, he would simply address the need for a guy who is a good passer and can carry the puck out of his own end if there's no passing options.

Rundblad is a talented young defenseman, who again, could fill a need the team has.

Grossmann hasn't had a bad month he's been bad all season. He's been downright brutal for a month.

And benching isn't sitting a guy out until the end of the season, it's sitting a guy for a game or two and holding him accountable for poor play. You want to argue, then actually address the points people made and not your own over reaction to the points made.
