What are you talking about?
I never said anything about coveting Coburn. Never.
The reason I said it's his reward is because he and Coburn as a pair were a force. Grossmann played his best hockey when paired with Coburn.
Coburn doesn't deserve praise. Coburn doesn't really get praise. Coburn is not really viewed by the fans as something worth coveting. Coburn is viewed, for the most part, by this fanbase as a solid defenseman with great skating ability. We as a fanbase- again, for the most part- believe it is NOT in this team's best interest to trade him because a) the D would be SO MUCH SLOWER and b) in much worse shape after dealing him.
I say for the most part, because there are some delusional Flyers fans out there who think Coburn is the second coming of Osi Vaananan.
SMH - Giroux_Is_God
The fact that people think Coburn is a solid defenseman is sickening in itself. He has set up more goals for the other team than he has helped his own team. I understand our defense is big slow and inept but keeping Coburn isn't going to help this team either. Coburn is not going stop turning the puck over. He isn't going to learn to be more physical. He isn't going to learn to not be out of position. Coburn is just not good, period. |

Were you really disappointed to see Rask save the shot that G took from the neutral zone with Hartnell offside? |

The entire team has been hit and or miss at times or all season, seems a waste of time to find one player to pick on.
Many of their failures are team wide. |

I know Gus is not going to change things, but I thought he was pretty solid for the most part yesterday.
He is able to make a quick accurate first pass and skate the puck a bit.
He will never be a physical, grind them against the wall, defenseman but overall I was happy with his play and would keep him in there.
The rest of it, well yuk. - Marc D
that's why we pair him with schenn on the 5/6 pair |

No because he is a defensive defenseman who can skate better then other D men that are in the same category
edit Pens fan, imagine if Orpik was 6'5" & skated really fast, you'd expect 40-50 points from him, but thats not his game |

I guess that is you taking a shot at me thinking I have no clue what I am talking about. Coburn minus 16 the last 2 seasons when his first 2 seasons he was a +24 with 16 goals and 48 assists. He has only scored 16 more goals since then. Yep he is a quality defenseman and the Flyers are lucky to have him. You know all. |

he still is a decent, minute munching guy. hes not an ace, but to push that baseball analogy further, he is a solid number 3 starter who can log a ton of innings. absolutely nothing wrong with that if you accept the reality of what he is. you need guys like that. |

We see flashes of what he could be when he gets a burr in his jock and plays with an edge - 'Mean' Coburn.
Those instances are very rare this season.

problem is he's expected to shoulder the load because of the dearth of solid D men on the team, that & Kimmo turning 40 doesn't help |

okay fair enough. but if orpik was 6 5 and skated really fast, i wouldnt expect 40 to 50 points out of him because like you said, that isnt his game. but given those physical tools, i would expect him to be absolutely incredible at what his game is. no coburn isnt going suddenly morph into bobby orr, but a lot of times he does tend to play smaller than what you think his frame would allow him to. he isnt fragile by any means, but he doesnt really have much mauler in him. |

yeah exactly what i mean. he has it in him, its just too uncommon on a consistent level, and thats a shame for him because his overall game suffers |
