okay fair enough. but if orpik was 6 5 and skated really fast, i wouldnt expect 40 to 50 points out of him because like you said, that isnt his game. but given those physical tools, i would expect him to be absolutely incredible at what his game is. no coburn isnt going suddenly morph into bobby orr, but a lot of times he does tend to play smaller than what you think his frame would allow him to. he isnt fragile by any means, but he doesnt really have much mauler in him. - stayinthefnnet
My other post explains that
way too much is expected of him |

what was your beef with the vinny signing when it was announced? |
|
|

He's freaking 6 5 and he plays like he's 5 11 - 2Real
Zac Rinaldo is 5'11 and plays like he is 6'5
Thank you. I can't take anyone who defends Coburn seriously. What gets me is that Timonen is usually paired with Coburn is a plus 4 while Braydon is a minus 6. That that alones tells the story. Timonen would be a double digit plus player being paired with a competant defenseman.

problem is he's expected to shoulder the load because of the dearth of solid D men on the team, that & Kimmo turning 40 doesn't help - puckhead17
true, and that is unfair to him. to continue on with my baseball motif, the fact that the number three starter is constantly paired against aces and cant consistently hang doesnt mean he is worthless. he is just being forced to play over his head due to the roster makeup. its a mistake to think that coburn is a legitimate stud number one defender in the NHL on a contending team. it is also a mistake to think that due to that fact he is therefore garbage. |

give us 2 solid D men (2 way D men) & he isn't even female doged about
oh wait the only year Pronger played here plus a younger Kimmo & Carle, & there was no Coburn female doging at all.
thats the point
in fact then, it was Carle who was female doged about here |

He was an upgrade to Briere and cheaper. We needed another vet on our team to help with the offense. What if he comes back next season and puts up 30 goals? Will you be fine then? |

The games where Coburn make a great cross ice pass to the other team that ends up in our net. Or Coburn who is the in the corner and gets out muscled by a guy a half a foot shorter than him. Or Coburn who is standing in front of the net and makes a beautiful deflection passed our own goalie. That is what games I am watching.

Please, they traded 2 cornerstone centers & wanted to groom 2 kids into the 2nd & 3rd lines & became stupid & impatient when Vinny became available

I wouldn't have paid either one the money they are getting but Streit can put the puck in the net, Carle couldn't hit the water falling out of a boat. |

1 yeah it happens i watch a lot of other teams games, no one is perfect
2 he can always smash the guy into the ice like Grossberger & go off for 4 minutes
3 yesterday was the 1st one & he didn't even see it coming, Schenn & the other caveman have done this a few times each |

We see flashes of what he could be when he gets a burr in his jock and plays with an edge - 'Mean' Coburn.
Those instances are very rare this season. - tangent_man
I agree, but I've come to grips with the occasional "mean" Braydon. It's just not in his DNA to run people through the boards night in and night out, and that's fine.
Only, I'd be glad to see a more consistent, puck moving, shut down Coburn. Earlier on, I was hoping he develop into more of a Larry Robinson-type. Oh well. |

But Carle was a UFA & there was no one here to take his place, no, he wasn't worth the $$$, but thats what happens when you don't have a replacement |

Keep defending Coburn. That is why NO REAL TEAM is trying to trade for him. |
