Is Callahan really worth 6 mil? I would say 5.5 at max but I don't see him enough I suppose. |

Girardi to the Avs for Parenteau, Wilson, Elliot and 2014 3rd rounder? |
|
|
|
Answering Pete from the previous post, if Callahan is seeking that type of deal he knows full well the Rangers won't pay it. So, my assumption is he wants out. It makes sense, he and Girardi are really the last of the Torts regime, and AV has delegated him to the 3rd line, so his days are numbered. Can't help but think somewhere down the line he'll come back and stick it up the Rangers a$$, hey maybe he signs with the Islanders. |

i don't think it's as extreme as him wanting out. he just wants to get paid and he has that right. if no deal is struck, i don't think it will be out of spite. it's a business at the end of the day. |

If you were in charge would you pay it? I hate theses convos about Callahan. I love the player, but in my mind, I just couldn't justify that contract. And you know what, I don't think you can either, but its just hard for you to say. It's hard for me to say, because I want the guy on the Rangers in my heart. My head just won't allow it though.

Considering how many long term deals, whether free agents from other clubs or our own guys signing extensions, that have not worked out quite well for us I am glad that the Rangers are being careful here. They need to weigh all the evidence and make the best decision; not just for this season or next but for the five years beyond that as well. |

No I wouldn't not pay it, but someone will and they'll get one hell of a hockey player. |

A couple of days ago I said that there was no way either Cally or G were going anywhere before the deadline. guess I may be wrong. |

sather should offer him 5 mil for 6 years and then entertain all trade offers up to the deadline. if he doesn't accept it, then some teams might be willing to pay a crazy amount for a guy like callahan. if it's a young top-6 potential 25+ goal scorer prospect or just a really great package, then maybe you pull the trigger. if there aren't any spectacular offers, cave and sign him to whatever he demands. |

Trades like that never happen. There are contract limits and only so many spots on a roster. Granted NYR have scouted the avs for literally like 90% of the season but atm its not looking as if Girardi will be dealt. |

Agree, someone will pay it. Not sure whether him and AV are a great match. Maybe we can trade him to the Hawks for Hossa.

Really the Rags playoff window revolves around King Henrik. You guys have great rookie forwards that can take Callys spot so I would just trade him and keep Girardi. As for what to do with Richards...... |

Still may be right. No negotiation goes smoothly. At this point I am not leaning either way of what I think will happen. Both truly are wildcards |

Separating out any unquantifiable value for Callahan's leadership qualities, which player, Girardi or Callahan will be more difficult to replace? To me it is Girardi. A proven top-four blue-liner who happens to be RH is very difficult to acquire as we have seen first hand the last few months.
I love Callahan. I have loved seeing him grow from unknown fourth-round pick to solid NHL player to two-time Olympian and respected team captain. But I believe it is easier to replace the on-ice production he brings to the table than it would be to replace what Girardi does. |

Hossa has a NMC and wants to win another cup so he would never agree to leave CHI, HOWEVER due to the new recapture rule I have a strong feeling hawks will buy him out after the season is done. |

Yeah, but that fact that Dreger and MacKenzie are reporting that Callahan is being shopped around the league (or interest is being gauged) quite frankly shocks me. |

Agree. For three, four maybe five years. Then after that the contract could be kind of ugly. Which is an unfortunate byproduct of UFA. Usually the guys that get there are already on the down slopes of their careers and teams pay for what the player was and not what he will be. |

I think AV respects him, but I do think he's probably not his type of player. |

If Callahan is traded, does he take the rest of the teams hearts with him? From everything we hear from the outside, the players love Callahan. How does a team respond without him. Really is interesting. |

It was possible, but he is still a very very good player so I went with serious. Unless there is some history or inside thing I am not aware of . |

Part of bringing in a new coach. If we want the team to play to his style, he needs his players. If AV is telling Sather he can move on without Callahan, kind of shows this team is building around AV for the long haul. |

I can say with 100% confidence and knowledge, that every player in the Rangers room loves and respects Callahan, he's one of the most respected players among coaches and GM's in the league. |
