Sorry, I don't what happened there. We agree, and still he doesn't get a sniff our the PP. I have the feeling this has more to with AV, than it does Callalhan's alleged salary demands, which I'm sure is negotiable.

I think on the PP issue, he got hurt, the PP got hot, AV had two units that were going really well, and he didn't want to mess with it. That sucks for Cally, but I'm not really sure whether I can blame to the coach for that. Hell, I am sure Cally even understands that you don't mess with a hot PP.

I hate this conversation, and I hate the salary cap. There should be greater incentives to allow clubs to keep their own homegrown players.

Callahan says he wants to remain a Ranger. Knows there are going to be persistent rumors until his future is settled.

What did we expect him to say? That even though I am Captain, I want to get paid, and if the Rangers can't do it, I will leave? He can say that after the season, not now

Thornton and Marleau signed for less than they could have gotten on the open market, when they signed those companion deals. But, they are still going to be very rich and happy men, and they don't have to pick-up and start over with a new franchise. Perhaps Callahan and Girardi should do the same. Sign companion 6 year/$32.5 milion deals, and be done with.

Exactly. I will say that if he wants anything near what he is asking for, he's going to have to take away Pouliot's spot on the Brass/Zucc line. No way he gets near $6M/7 years while playing on a third line. Hell, you should be on the first line if making that much dough.

Would it be cap circumvention if we struck a deal with the Panthers to have them sign him for 6 years/36 million, and then trade him back to us retaining $2 million of his annual cap hit for some good young prospect? I guess it would be, right?

Even if we got away with it the one time you know Bettman and the owners would punish the hell out of us under the new CBA. Good idea but probably can't happen.

Excellent point, let's hope that happens.
