Jan in your blog last week you said you didn't believe girardi was worth over 5 per, I said he was. Do these numbers change your tune? Streit got that from Philly and he's older and a liability on defense. Wideman got that and he's a lesser player imo. I think if the Rangers can sign him for under 6 per they'd be foolish to let him go. The return won't replace him and every team needs and wants someone like him. Thoughts? - Isles_since_6

I just have this feeling Callahan will end up as a Wild. Fellow americans Suter & Parise may have something to do with this. |

That would mean giving up on Vanek and where is the fun in that. Why not just let the wild get Miller and then have Vanek go there for FA and bam, the Minnesota Sabers |

I think AV respects him, but I do think he's probably not his type of player. - OLDSCHOOL#6
i could see that argument, but then why does cally usually play the 3rd most minutes of every forward each night?
cally is AV's less offensively talented kesler, and i'm sure he appreciates having a player like that in his arsenal.
overall, i think we can all agree that during the first ~4 years of cally and girardi's new contracts, they're going to perform well and earn those deals. i think it might be worth risking a few crappy years at the end of their contracts to get 4 more years of these core players together. mostly this core made it to the ECF and i think this team is better. with hank already signed for a few years after he will start to decline, richards potentially being kept to perform for a few more years, and not many attractive young options to lock up long term in free agency, it might be worth going all-in with this core and resigning girardi and cally for the next 4 years of good hockey they will play. |

Richards COULD be a better player than stastny but he is 6 years older and if you dont buy him out then you are stuck with that contract with no way around it. So it is less about stastny himself and more about if the Rags want to deal with Richards contract for the rest of his career considering they can just compliance buyout him this summer but this summer only. - Meeqsb
You make a good case. I'm just saying who I'd rather
Have on the team assuming both would be there for a while I. E. we
Would extend or resign statsny if we got him. |

there are ways around his contract. look at what the flyers are doing with pronger and LTIR. |

So you are going to let Richards get concussed until his brains are mashed potatoes?
There REALLY aren't any ways around that contract with the exception of the compliance buyout. The last CBA focused on that pretty hard |

I just can't see us paying if the reports are right, what Cally wants. I think though if we do lose him, its going to be felt on this team for a long time. - mdw7413
i don't think there's any way he walks for nothing. if we don't trade him at the deadline, the rangers will probably sign him for $5.5 mil a year. if cally is looking for $6 mil right off the bat, he will most likely accept a number close to that. even if he doesn't budge, the rangers will probably cave.
cally is my favorite ranger forward. he's a homegrown captain and literally embodied the style the rangers played under torts for the last 4 years, but if he could really bring in a return like kyle palmieri + 1st from the ducks or something similar from other contenders, then it's a trade that could potentially benefit the team a few years from now.
i'm torn though. i think we could potentially screw ourselves long-term if we trade away cally. |

How would you guys feel about a trade that involved Girardi for Franson as the main pieces? Granted Girardi is a much better player, so straight up would be extremely unlikely despite his UFA status. While Franson isn't the best in his own end, he could easily help you guys out on the PP while taking a lower role 5 v 5 and 4 v 5. It seems with Staal, McDonaugh and Klein you have good stay at home presence, but could perhaps use an upgrade over Stralman with regards to puck movement... what do you think?
EDIT: I forgot to mention that Franson has of course been linked with you guys before with regards to the Del Zotto trade... seems like Sather has scouted him anyway... |

Anybody else comfortable with Mcilrath being Girardi's replacement? Cause if not than the Rangers are S.O.L on the right side. |

Leafs aren't trading Franson. He's a big body on a reasonable contract and he only needs a 2.2 qualifying offer next year. |

naaah. franson isn't the same type of shut-down 20+ min a night top-pairing defender that girardi is.

is connor allen a righty?
but honestly, klein might be able to replace girardi's minutes pretty effectively. or a move of staal up to the top line if he's comfortable playing that side, then have a 2nd line of moore - klein and a 3rd line of connor allen - stralman
edit: also, it's reasonable to assume that if we trade girardi for a prospect, it will be a top defensive prospect with the potential to be a top-4 defender. |

The 1 deal that came out of NYR had
Avs: Mcginn, Wilson, Barrie/Elliot/Siemens
Rags: Girardi, Offensive prospect (possibly JT miller or Hagelin)
And from kings I heard
Stoll, Muzzin, Vey for Girardi |

Allen's a lefty. The only RHS in the Rangers system are Andersson and Mcilrath. Mcilrath's lack of any kind of skating ability and one bad knee really screws the pooch for the Rangers. |

The offer from the avs came out a NYR reporter with apparently good credibility, the kings offer came from the forums on hockeybuzz so it doesn't offer credibility but was more fun to think about. |

What NYR reporter? - tomburton99
It exploded on Twitter like wild fire about 2 weeks ago, from what I can tell it started with Fred Poulin claiming he got the source from inside the Avs circle and the twitterverse from both sides seemed to like the idea as it came right after MDZ was traded .
What we do know is that the Rags have had scouts at almost EVERY avs game this season so if there were to be a trade between them I wouldn't be surprised. I could also see names like Mcginn and Barrie being of interest to the rags with wilson there to fill the gap short term. |

No I originally read the rumor from a rags writer who said he liked the deal from the rags point of view, however I couldnt remember where it originally came from so I found it just now.
He is actually a free lancer writer in MTL, however he seems to be pretty well respected and on top of his stuff. Anything else you may have heard about him is all you as it is the first time I have seen him. |
