Much needed win, regardless of the weak opponent roster. |

Exactly. It's the same reason why I'm firmly against bringing up AHL defenseman in "throw away" seasons. You can't gain confidence by playing against the Western Conference All Stars (the fully-healthy Chicago Blackhawks). You do it by playing against a team you can beat. You go out, play smart, hard hockey, and succeed. And go from there with some confidence. - jmatchett383
You also don't want to throw away a season when you're holding the final playoff spot |

Anaheim will be buzzing Thursday after a dissappointing effort last night from their squad. We'll see if the Flyers are ready for them |

I've said it before, I'll say it again: this defense is better with Gus in the line-up.
Hopefully he can string some games together here. - mochoson
Do you think it would be a good idea to give Timonen a rest in the up-coming games, knowing he is playing the olympics and you will need him in the strech, and since you have a haelthy D-corpse Gus can stay in and Meszaros can play? |

Strange how Grossmann, L Schenn and others played so much better last night, when they kept their feet moving, and reacted more quickly to loose pucks.
Funny how that works.
- FlyerGuy
Strange how they played so much better when they get good puck support from forwards who weren't taking shifts off.
Also funny how that works too.

I'll admit I didnt watch the game last night, but I still cant feel too good about all this "good" news. I mean they did what they were supposed to do, beat and looked good beating an AHL team, with a back-up goalie in net. Detroits top 4 players were out of the game. How do you think the Flyers would do if Giroux, Voracek, Simmonds, and Schenn were not playing? - youarewrong
Jesus, you can't please some people every. they beat the team they faced and beat them 5-0. what more do you want? |

Not in the up-coming games. They'll need all hands on deck, and they really can't afford to go into any game with less than the best lineup available. |

I dont have a problem with pointing out the positives of last night, as long as they are tempered a bit.
All these guys had good games... They looked good. But keep in mind who was missing from the other team. Don't get too excited. This team still has a lot of wholes. And this team is more like a bunch of guys just put together, then a team with a plan. |

But if Timonen is hurt, even a little, I would rather give him the rest. If he is fine, then play him, but just a little injury, I would say, sit, recover, rest. Your more important for the next 20 games then the next 3. |

Gusty played a good game, but could still add some upper body strength. He gets knocked off of pucks way too easily. - jmatchett383
As long as he can bring elements to the table that make him shine, I'm not going to harp on his physical strength. Lot of really good NHL dmen aren't particularly strong on the puck... Enstrom, Karlsson, Carle, Leddy, Visnovsky, Krug, Spurgeon... they've developed ways over compensating, and that's been enough to not mitigate their value as players. |

It's not about who you play, it's about how you play.
And even with the guys out of Detroit's lineup, there were still no less than 4 Olympians skating against the Flyers, and their AHL call-ups are hardly like other teams' -- Detroit's famous for having overripe, NHL-ready guys toiling in Grand Rapids, which also happens to be the top team in the AHL right now.
Edit: make that 6 Olympians, forgot Alfie and Ericsson. |

I'll be honest I'm not sure I offer him a new contract if I'm the GM. I dont think his game has progressed enough, and I'm very leery of his injury history. |

All around a pretty good effort against a depleted Wings team.
The combined home record of the 3 teams the Flyers face in this 3 game Western gauntlet is 56-12-8.
If the Flyers manage to secure 3 points they did very well. - PLindbergh31

I truly believe Schenn and Gus play better when they get more minutes. They were both getting a good chunks of minutes last year and they played very well. I get that, I've always felt the more I play the better I play - nastyflyergirl

which is why the Flyers will probably win 2 of 3 on this trip, if for no other reason then so they can get out hopes up once again ... before dashing them later in the year.
- FlyerGuy
I suspect this is precisely what will happen, as the money I normally have put aside for Playoff tickets has already been mentally spent on other things. |

If you say so. You go ahead and jump back on the bandwagon. I'll wait 4-5 games and see if I see the same improvement over a strech of game instead of against a severly depleted team before I admit this team is well anything but mediocre. |

To be honest I'm sick and tired of the North-East corridor. People are rude and the weather sucks. I'll take Florida over Cali though. |
