To be fair, failing to play 60mins is hardly the sole domain of the Flyers. But yeah, the last part probably doesn't help breed a championship culture.

He is a RFA. Teams will always sign their NHL or even fringe NHL RFA's unless they are demanding a crazy term or dollar amount. Gus will have little leverage. Unless he gets traded, he is a flyer next year - Just5
There are plenty of RFA's that dont get tendered contracts late into thier RFA years and they become UFAs. |

I would choose florida as well. The places Id want to live in California are very expensive. Florida is very affordable. |

The bugs are bigger in FL.
But the choice between earthquakes and Hurricanes? At least you know when a 'cane is coming.
However, if I had to choose, I go northern Cali. |

He may have won the award, but we all know he was the 5th best defenseman on the team behind Pronger, Carle, Coburn and Timo - PhillySportsGuy
Does anyone not think that Meszaros from 3 years ago is still better then anyone on this current defense, save Timonen? |

It's hard to say.
I liked Mez when he was in Ottawa and the Mez of 3 years ago played a different role than he does now.
I think Mez has a good skill set; I'm just not sure of his decision making when you increase his role.
In computer programming parlance, he's like an application that doesn't scale well. |

I'd take Streit from 5 years ago and Coburn from 6 years ago myself |

You're not supposed to try to make us feel better about the trade, you're supposed to be gloating about JVR and his 21 goals! - wolfhounds Nope, wasn't trying to make you feel better about the trade. I'm not sure why the Flyers traded JVR, although there are some nights when he doesn't look overly interested. I wish the Leafs had given you Gardiner instead of Schenn, but then you would probably be cursing him most nights like I do. |

I think Coburn is more reliable. Lets not forget that Mez was used as a third pairing guy and put in very good situations. Pronger-Carle did the grunt work and Coburn-Timonen did the heavy lifting as well.
Mez was put into a position to flourish.
Mez of 3 years ago would be a great compliment to present day Grossmann. |

Pretty much... if you put Kimmo in pillow-soft sheltered minutes, and gave him a steady diet of offensive/PP icetime and great forwards to play with, he could probably still put up 50-60 pts. |

I don;t think natural disasters would deter me from either place. I would just be more comfortable in Florida because I'm a northeast guy. I'd be with a lot of people similar to me who transplanted.
California sports aren't great. They're pretty much Laker basketball, USC football and UCLA basketball. After that, no one really cares about much. Don't even mention he Dodger fans |

I was having this discussion with a friend of mine about JvR.
The funniest thing, to me, about what Brian Burke said about Bobby Ryan that he "couldn't spell intense" is that he traded for JvR, who has been criticized for being NOT being "overly interested" or "intense". |

That's the first thought that popped into my head as well... no idea how JvR was granted lock status, while the historically better player gets skewered. |

One word: Speed.
Thats been the whole argument for taking worse players. They think speed is going to play a huge role. That's why Carter and Nash over Giroux. |

How much faster than Giroux is Carter?
Even if it's by quite a lot I would have G on my team over Carter any day. |
