How much faster than Giroux is Carter?
Even if it's by quite a lot I would have G on my team over carter any day. - Feanor
It was pretty obvious to me that they were looking for players to fit certain roles. They already had an over abundance of centers... They were looking for wingers with size who could play both ways and score goals. Carter fits that bill better than Giroux.

Even if the rink was 300x500, I'd have Giroux. Carter is a better skater though. Giroux is shifty, but not fast in straight away speed. |

They snubbed him despite his scoring. They didn't feel he offered much else besides scoring and he wasn't good enough to fit in the top 6. I guess they have Kane, Parise, Kessel and JVR ahead of him as American wingers.
I still thought they should have found a spot for He and Yandle, even if it was just the bench. |

I'll admit I didnt watch the game last night, but I still cant feel too good about all this "good" news. I mean they did what they were supposed to do, beat and looked good beating an AHL team, with a back-up goalie in net. Detroits top 4 players were out of the game. How do you think the Flyers would do if Giroux, Voracek, Simmonds, and Schenn were not playing? - youarewrong
Oh gods... those are their top four players!!!

G seems to have an extra gear when he needs/wants it...when he's in that gear, I don't think Carter has much if any speed on him. |

Speed < Possession/Puck Skills on the larger ice.
It's just so much tougher getting the puck back from the other team with the extra space between players themselves and the players and the boards. If you've got guys who can hang on to the puck, make good decisions with it, and execute in the passing game, you're golden. |

But his off ice statistics are spectacular. No one scores more than him off the ice. |

I love G and am indifferent about Carter. Carter is faster than G in straight line speed. It is what it is. He's certainly not a better player than Giroux though. |

I agree. I never understood the need of Team Canada and Team USA to add so much speed at all costs. The puck travels faster than the man. The more space, the more puck possession guys I'd want to have. |

I think some in the brain trust don't realize that the rink is the 200' long just like NHL ice... they hear bigger ice and all they can think about is OMG we need SPEEEEED. |

Didn't see the game, but great to see Mason get the shutout.
Expect Timonen to be back next game unless something is broken, guy is a lion. |
