Bill's comments. His game wasn't that much better, & he took 2 penalties. He struggles mightly w/the puck on his stick. He seems to almost turn to his back hand and/or reverse the puck instead of moving it forward. I like what he brings for the PK and some shutdown playoff hockey but I think he has too big of a role on the team. I know it's out of necessity... I see him out on the ice durning 4 on 4. Why?

I guess we took it differently. He pointed out his flaws in the same paragraph he says he had his best game of the month, which is what it was.

So then who is/are the puppet(s) and who is the puppeteer?

Anyway, all I did was ask a question. I didn't mean to throw sand into panties.

The teams they are going up against on this road trip, to me are kind of teams they should be able to match up against fairly well.

I think the Flyers, especially on D are built to play a gritty game. Just from some of the highlights and reading around it seems they played a bit more physical yesterday. Each team will pose dangers with quality players up front, but I feel the Flyers should match up better vs these teams, as opposed to say a team like Colorado, which has much more speed.

They played more physical and, more importantly, physical with a purpose, last night. Instead of hitting because they could hit, they hit to separate people from the puck, or at least force people into bad decisions/positions. That said:

- Anaheim's forwards (specifically Getzlaf and Princess Perry) will NOT be easily knocked off the puck. Much like Lindros (concussion jokes aside), the best way to stop them is to go after their stick, and that will pose a big problem.
- LA's forwards have a mix of size and speed, and we'll have to work hard to keep them to the perimeter.
- San Jose...well, we haven't beaten them in 12 years (anyone remember Hartnell's OT shot going in 0.1 after the horn), so I'm not expecting much to change.

I understand. I just don't think his game was all that better to even call out. He's had a horrid month, so I guess it's not too difficult to improve on some of his recent play, I just don't think it was noteworthy.

He was noticeable (aside from the delay of game penalty) mostly for positives. Most of the month, it's been all for negatives. Whatever, he had a pretty good game and hopefully it's a stepping stone for him.

People have the option of ignoring other posters. I don't get why everyone's panties get in a bunch over him. I've disagreed and agreed with him at times and never felt attacked. If I did I'd hit the ! and move on.
- funmaster18

Threre is no "ignore user" button on the site, which would make it a lot easier to deal with the likes of that guy. The issues I've seen with him are that he seems to feel like everyone else's opinion, whether solicited or not, is subject to his own approval/disapproval and if you try and debate when he disagrees he often uses circular arguments that defy logic while hardly ever really listening to or accepting the points others try to make.... he also does a lot of indirect insults, putting down people's opinions and knowledge of the game while seeming to consider his own opinions as if they are indisputible facts. It all adds up to a frustrating experience that often raises the ire of his counterparts and some observers.

When he's here he's usually chiming in on almost everyone's opinions so he's a dominant and often annoying, frustrating, even offensive presence. Personally, I know of more than a few people who have fled this site for greener pastures due primarily to his presence...I include myself in this group. I used to post more often and got tired of the incessant arguments that would ensue...I mean, I am fine with a debate, but since he doesn't listen to reason and often laces his comments with insults or implied insults, it turns from a healthy debate into something else, and I'd rather not have gone there. I know I've seen it many times with him and others too.

I've spent many months at a time away from this site, but I did lurk at times to see Bill's blog and some comments...and in almost every case, when I checked the thread, there would be some ongoing argument someone was having with MJL...and it's been different people over time...so, it's obvious it's not them...the common denominator is always him.

You know, I was thinking about it the other day...and I don't think MJL has ever actually instigated an argument on here. He has a way with words that can offend people (myself included), but for the most part, he just rubs people the wrong way, and then they seek out an argument with him on a daily basis, or at least pick his posts apart/spin his words to draw him into an argument. Again, I understand that he can rub people the wrong way (as can I), but compared to some of the OLD users on here (not any more), he's not too bad.

I just think Bill's a nice guy and he sees a lot of value in his game. The guy's had a bad month, a really bad month, but he's been a pretty solid defender for this team since he's been here. When he finaly has a decent game in this stretch Bill's going to chime in and point it out. That's where "Bill's a nice guy" kicks in. As much as he's a writer, he's a Flyers fan and is defensive (respectful) of the players who play the game. It's a great trait. Completely opposite of what you find with most writers.

It's why I read him first every day.

As far as MJL goes, he's not so difficult to deal with if you're willing to live him him not agreeing with you. When I get to that point, I simply stop discussing the subject at hand. It can be a frustrating endgame, but less so if you don't expect (EDIT: or hope for) approval.

As for the circular logic, the unsolicited approval/disapproval, failure to accept the points of others, the indirect insults, the treating of his own opinion as indisputable fact, there are a handful of users who share these traits, and do not get banned similarly. Among them are users who simply switch to alternate accounts. I'd like to see equal treatment of those users. On a related note, I may have just lobbied for my own ban.

After watching LA and San Jose the other night, I think that we'll have a ton of trouble cracking LA's defense. That might be a brutal game for us to watch.

As much as I (personally) like the guy, I'm not really going to argue a lot on here. My main point was, and I'm not going to name names, some posters, even before they'd post anything, would find his post with an, "Oh yeah, well you said this, and you're an idiot and are saying something counter toy what you said earlier," post of their own. He' then shoot back, and then it's popcorn time. Is he usually the common denominator? Yes. I'm just saying it takes two to tango. There are a number of people on here who, whenever I see them, I just pay them no heed because I know it will be a pissing match (someone else just made the list yesterday).

For the people who dislike him, I offer this advice: Disregard his posts. This is a discussion site. If no one's going to discuss things with you, then you'll (likely) want to leave because it's no fun. Much like Garth, the more replies he gets, the more likely he is to stay around.

I think 3/6 is doable. I actually think they can beat Anaheim and take 1 out of LA. That is, IF they play last night and limit the mental lapses.
