Well, let's say there's a poopload of depth lacking in Hamilton.

That said, I'd say most of the players on the roster were drafted by the Habs... so I guess thats... good?

- Pecafan Fan

a big problem: from 2006-2010, of 6 first round picks, we have 1 on our roster.
06: Fischer, bust
07: McDonagh, given away; Pacioretty
08: traded for Tanguay
09: Leblanc, bust
10: Tinordi, still not close
2 busts, 1 pick dealt, 1 prospect thrown away, 1 developing very slowly and 1 on the roster.
that's not how you build a good team.

he does seem like the only high-end prospect. and by "high-end" i mean potentially more than just an interchangeable depth piece... aside from Beaulieu. man Timmins gets a lot of praise recently but what a black hole we've been prospect-wise from 2007-2011. who's the exception, Gallagher?
- DoubleDown

So Beaulieu is more then an interchangeable depth player?

Pacs, PK were drafted in 2007, McDonaugh also.

2008 to 2011...different story outside Gallagher

i meant the years in between. 2007 was good and 2011 is still too early to judge.

Tanguay was a good deal, then they let him go and it became a stupid deal. You can't just let Souray, Koivu, Kovalev, Tanguay, Ryder, Wisniewski etc. go away for nothing after giving away the assets that got them here at the first place. Drafting is not bad, it's the asset management that put the Habs where they are today.

There is a lack of depth right now mainly because they have been throwing away picks pour réparer le toit qui coule

in both 2010 and 2011 drafts they had no 2nd and 3rd round picks.

He gets WAY too much credit IMO but sadly, I heard the Habs are the team who have one of the highest ratio of players playing in the NHL vs draft. The problem is most of them are borderline NHLers

I'd say it's the same problem for all middle of the pack teams that always draft in the middle.

i think it's a combination but that's a fair point about Tanguay. but you can't deal picks AND miss on your first rounders like that. but there were a few years without second rounders which hurt too.

i'm not so sure. once you get pas the top 10-15 picks, everyone is in the same boat and has access to the same players.

I think it's fair to say that the 2008-2009 drafts were just horrible for the Habs

2010 could be ok, given the circumstances. 2011 is not looking good at this point.

also, it looks like Timmins took the rest of the day off in 07 after drafting PK and left Bob in charge.

If Beaulieu pans out to be a top 4 I think you have to deem 2011 a success. Hard to find NHL'ers consistently past the 2nd round. 2010 seems like a good draft year.
