The players ALWAYS have more to do than the coach himself...but that doesn't change anything.

Look at what's happening in Winnipeg, the players didn't suddenly get better...they just got tired of Noel's message, and now they're listening to Maurice's message....in a few years they'll get tired of Maurice's message and start listening to some other guys message.

I used to really like him as a player...but he's slowed down too much, and injuries have taken their toll on him.

I don't make coaches out to be important...the media does that.

However, when your team is constantly under performing (I'm not saying they have to win every game, but at least compete...) you can blame all the players you want...and try to trade as many of them as you want...or you can change the coach and almost always see instant improvement...

And isn't that the coaches job? to get their players to play to their full potential as often and as consistently as possible? When a coach fails to do that, what good is he? EVEN IF IT'S THE PLAYERS FAULT, the coach is the one that ends up paying...

i disagree. the coach lays out the blueprint for how a team plays, and he has to teach and instruct the players on how best to execute that system, and he has to get all the players on the same page. there's a reason St. Louis turned into the team it did when Ken Hitchcock got hired. there's a reason Anaheim shaped up when Bruce Boudreau took over. there's a reason Montreal finished dead last when Cunneyworth replaced Martin. i think your head coach has a major impact on your team.

Coaches have an impact, but that impact is limited by the skill level of the team he inherits...

That said, having a better coach always helps.
