Any team paying over 5 for Callahan is reaching and/or has a hell of a lot of cap space to use.

Gotta consider term as well, he turns 29 before July and plays a taxing style of hockey while not being the biggest guy.

I think 5 is ok, still think it's a lot, but at the same time look at all the other terrible contracts that have been handed out.

I think the question rangers fans should ask is: Callahan worth that money if he stays healthy?

You hit the nail on the head! If Callahan had a track record of staying healthy I think he might be worthy of $5 million a year. But as it is, he doesn't make a big enough diffrence on the score board when he IS healthy to warrant that kind of dough for a guy that misses at least a dozen or more game per season... IMO

Look at Pomiville for instance. Not the same type of player, but puts up 30 goals/60 points a season and he's only making $5.75

I am not a Yak fan atm. His all around play is terrible... at the moment...

But his shot is disgusting. Once he figures things out there really is no limit to how many goals this kid could get in his career.

If the Oilers were making a cup run I would deal Yak for Calla right at this moment. Trade potential future super star for solid depth winger. But Edmonton is so far away from that they may as well keep Yak and find out exactly how great this kid will be.

From a NYR perspective... No offense but something is seriously wrong with you if you would rather have Calla over Yak going forward. Don't the rangers have trouble scoring? A young budding scoring future star for a depth winger with character.

No offense again but I don't think the Rangers have a snow balls chance in hell of winning the cup. They are a B team at best, most likely a team that wouldn't even make the playoffs in the West. Yak would give the Ranger a much harder to find piece to their club for the next 5-10 years at least.

Why wouldn't he trade Callahan? 6 million for 7 years is insane!! Hell, they wouldn't give Prust 3 million and you can't tell me Callahan is that much better. Look at the roster and tell me how they're going to keep all the more talented and younger players? I've been a Ranger fan for almost 50 years and I really never understood the hype with Cally.

Bro, I'm on your side in this debate but, you can't tell me your a Ranger fan & can't see much of a difference from Cally & Prust? Cally plays (or did till this yr) PP, PK, out in all situations, he gives 180% every shift, plays hurt (*often his downfall), certainly picks up far more points than Prust. He is blood & guts personified. He has seen Slats give stiffs with as little or less track record than him get HUGE pay days with the Rangers. Again, is he worth over 6 mill at a 6-7yr term? Hell NO, buthe knows if he gets to July 1 in a weak UFA pool & teams start bidding...who knows.
