The Clarkson deal was in that rare Wade Redden tier where I burst out laughing the instant it was announced. |

90% of them are ridiculous.....but really, it's just money, who cares?
I alway find it funny when people get all bent out of shape when someone is overpaid, as if it is coming out of their great grandmothers sock under the mattress. |

Put it this way though, it's more justifiable to overpay massively for a guy you know will be able to play (at least for a couple years) in your top six or top four. |

I don't get it, but the Rangers are more and more turning away from their spiritual leader. |

.56PPG That is his scoring rate.
That said, I think EDM would be a good fit for him.

197 forwards played 4000+ minutes at even-strength from 2007-2013. These, I would say, are regulars.
Ryan Callahan's points/60: 1.44. That's 163rd, behind Chris Kelly and Marcel Goc.
When you're shelling out that sort of money, generally you want an impact player. The way NHL GMs overpay for guys with high Sh% and not much else, you can find a Ryan Callahan -- decent top-six forward, penalty killer -- for about one third of the cost pretty easily.
And if you want something more predictive than points/goals/whatever, his on-ice shot attempts over that same span are a dead-even 50%.
He's not an impact player. |
