Well, first....Callahan is not the heart and soul of the NYR. Second, is it even remotely possible that Callahan has quietly asked to be moved? Yes, it is possible.
My goodness Ek, you do know that Wayne Gretzky was traded once, don't you? |

just confirming with my sources, but believe that deal may still be on the table. - Barx
It's looking more and more likely that Ovechkin will be moved at some point. But that trade would pale in comparison to a Callahan trade. |

Gretzky Shmetzky.
THIS IS RYAN CALLAHAN! He's the glue. He's the Rangers spiritual leader. Ryan Callahan IS the NY Rangers. |

Ek is also reporting that, "honestly the Canadian team would take either Miller or Quick in a Manitoba minute." |

Ek, this is pretty serious stuff. Do you think we should try contact Sather and ask him some of the questions you brought up? If there's one thing I've learned from my time at hockeybuzz, it's that Eklund knows more than general managers. I think the Rangers should offer him the league max. He may be good for only 15-20 goals a year, but like you said, he is their glue. And you can't put a price on glue.

I beg to differ...

love how people forget I wasn't the only media outlet reporting those talks were happening, and how I reported later that it turned out to be Washington's way of forcing AO's hand by scaring him a bit.... |

I also cant help but think Callahan would be more willing to work with Sather had Sather handled the Dubinsky, Stepan, or Lundqvist negotiations in a more honorable manner. Callahan's stance has to be a lot more firm based on how he has seen Sather treat his teammates. - Eklund
so if he's not grossly overpaid he's being mistreated? |

Wait...you mean the big $$ aquisitions of:
Scott Gomez
Chris Drury
Gaborik
Brad Richards and Rich Nash aren't paying dividens?
The latter two have been OK, but not for what their getting paid. - nikel
What was wrong with gaborik? And gomez got us one of the best young defenders in the league. |

hard to believe that sather blew the negotiations with those three...oh wait, he signed them all. |
|
|

Great, you just doomed him to come to the USA Burke/ Conroy show where we overpay to make the floor and send them cammy. - saneopinion
Making the floor isn't nearly as hard as people make it out to be with low budget rebuilding teams. |

It's almost like all three of those guys are more valuable and harder to replace than Callahan ... |

No way anyone could have foreseen how desperate Montreal was going to get after the Lecavalier trade fell apart though. |

At the same time, gomez was traded when he still had value. Same for gaborik. Sather has a knack for that. |

Almost. However, 40 goal scorers are a dime a dozen. How often does a player like Callahan come along? Is it too early in his career to call him a once in a generation glue guy? Like Ek said, reporting that Callahan might be traded is the most insane thing he's ever reported. |

Indeed. His UFA record is pretty...spotty but he's always been a pretty good trader.

Callahan is similar to dustin brown. He is also similar to parise, without the scoring touch obviously. |

Yea it was brutal, all of my friends that are TO fans were so happy about and said that I just called it a brutal contract because the Oilers didn't get him.... ridiculous |
