I think it's more an issue of getting value in return. If there isn't a good deal on the table, we might as well hold on to him for the sake of team chemistry, then deal him in the offseason much like we did Perron, to open up that cap space for a goalie or top 6 center. |

I would hold onto him for one more year. Even though his playoff stats have been pretty poor in the past, I think he could do some good things this postseason. At the very least, it will be easier to move his salary next year if he still isn't contributing. |

Ritchey: Blues Buzz - Should The Blues Trade Chris Stewart?
Chris Stewart has had a roller coaster season in St. Louis and his lack of production and effort is rubbing off on the fans, and not in a good way. So the question remains, should the Blues play him, or trade him? - Randall_Ritchey
Trading Stewart is an option that Armstrong must give serious consideration to.
Moving him this season may prevent teams from asking for Rattie or Oshie in trade proposals.

If he's on the block Edmonton definitely wants him and our GM's have history together after the Perron for Paajarvi and a 2nd trade. What would St. Louis want for him? Hemsky at max salary retained might be enticing, maybe we add a good prospect like Klefbom? |

Hemsky has no value to the Blues, doesn't fit our system any better than Stewart. The only deal I would imagine working with Edmonton would be Stewart+ (probably our first) for your first round pick this year, and I wouldn't imagine it happening till this off-season.
Blues biggest needs are a Top 6 center who fits in Hitchcock's system... that means size & strong defensively; and a Top 10 in the league type goalie. If not addressing one of those, it makes no sense to move Stewart now instead of later. |

On Stewart, if the Blues are going to go after Statsny (which I think they will if he reaches UFA) then they are going to want to keep Stewart around as those two play well together.
I don't really see a problem with Stewart. He has the potential to dominate, even if it doesn't show up as much as we would all like it. I don't think the Blues can afford to move him as we will need all the scoring we can have come playoff time. Maybe if we can't get him going the rest of the year and Paul isn't signed in the offseason, then I would look to trading him as he would have 1 year left and would still be a RFA so another team might be very interested in a big forward like him. |

Would love to see him on the Pens. Unfortunately all we have to deal is D. |

Is this for real? A Blues blogger! Please stick around for us Blues fans.
I completely agree with you on Stewart. I remember saying last year they should trade him when he was on his "hot streak." You hit the nail on the head, he doesn't fit in. The effort just isn't there consistently. I would rather see Jaskin or Paajarvi in his spot. Would be interesting to see what teams are interested in him. What do you think he could bring back? |

Hemsky is having a better year than Stewart and would play well with the bigger, stronger forwards on St. Louis creating room for him out there. With half his salary retainined, making room for another acquisition, and a really good D prospect in Klefbom I could see this being a decent package for an underperforming winger with one year left till UFA eligibility. Maybe we add a draft pick |

Thanks everyone, for the welcome.
I don't see myself leaving here anytime soon. I'm pretty much here for the long run.
As for a return on Stewart, the Blues would need to get a center or a center prospect back in return. So for Pittsburgh we would be looking at Sutter. Edmonton really doesn't have a center that would fit with the Blues. |

I could see a Hartnell for Stewart swap with different pieces going the other way and such. |

Nobody wants Hemsky. Edmonton has been trying to unload him for 3 seasons now.
STL def isnt going to trade a big trade chip for him. |

Hemsky has no value to the Blues. It's about him not fitting in Hitchcock's system, not being good enough defensively to get any real ice time. Everything else you are talking about doesn't help us this year. Unless something helps us this year, there is no reason to trade Stewart and mess up the chemistry until the off-season. |
