They needed a Power forward type who was physical and could score. - MJL
We'll see what happens with him. Power forwards usually need to find that perfect line then they become very effective. You can see that with Hartnell and Simmonds. |

you know who is going to have to come with read to make it worthwhile, and im sure thats a deal breaker for you. - stayinthefnnet
I may consider a Letang for Couts straight up. I just love Couturier. I think he can win the Selke. Those types of players win playoff games. |

Read, Laughton and a first - PhillySportsGuy
love read. thats obvious by now. but he isnt the game changing center piece. Laughton, i do like, but he doesnt exactly project to fill a spot of need for the pens. and a first is never anything to sneeze at, but i would be hoping for something with more immediate dividends. |

I know. I wouldn't either. I'm just trying to determine what his market value would be. |

He's had an above avg season this year compared to his previous play, just before the big paycheck coming.
Maybe he can repeat what he's down this season down the line, but im not willing to take that risk. |

Sometimes Free Agents need some time to settle in. He's had the suspensions and now an injury. He isn't producing right now as they would hope, but it's not a one year deal, it's a long term deal. And the money is overblown. It's not that huge of a deal.

I think it's an underrated return for the Pens because it allows them to re-sign Niskanen or sign Girardi. |

Coots actually isnt who i was referencing, although he is definitely a player i like. but again, i dont necessarily see him as filling a huge hole. |

It was a pretty substantial deal. It's not looking good for them right now. When I watch Leaf games, I never even see him. I forget he's on their team for entire games sometimes. |

Flyers aren't a team they would trade Letang to, but I was thinking he may be expendable with the emergence of Niskanen and Maata. If they trade him, they can get a big return and re-sign Niskanen. |

yup. and you can keep your draft pick. i realize you guys wouldnt do that, but that would be my asking price. i actually think letang would be better for you guys than he is for the penguins, and he would literally be able to cure so much of what ails your team. |

I would do Read and Simmonds. I would wait until the offseason as we can't have Laughton on the team yet and we'd need to sign a power forward to replace Simmonds. |

A little over 5M a year isn't a big deal with the Cap going up and likely continuing to go up. He hasn't had a good year for them to this point. But it's a 7 year deal I think, and the future could be very different.

even if letang leaves, i dont know if i am comfortable signing niskanen to a contract pushing 6 a year. |

I was talking about Niskanen...
edit: but between the two i'd rather have Letang as he's shown more over a longer period of time. Yes i know he has his flaws, but he does things no other dmen on our team does. |

I wouldn't include both in the deal. I'd only trade one roster forward. And I don't think it would be Simmonds.

its definitely a colossal risk for both teams. and definitely a big thing to give up for both sides. but it would be hard pressed for the teams to find a better elixir for their shortcomings while dealing primarily from an area of strength |

Agreed, Simmer has become an untouchable for me. Unless it's for an all world guy. |

It restrains them a bit this offseason. It may not hold them back from a ton, but if he continues to struggle, it's not a good allocation of cap space. |

I love Simmonds, but Letang is a top pairing defenseman. We don't have any of those and our young guys are still a ways away. As much as I love both Read and Simmonds, They are 3rd and 2nd line players on this team. |

If a player struggles it's never a good allocation of cap space. There is always that risk in making any move.
