Gagner to tampa would most likely net a slim return. I wonder if we throw our 1st pick in will that start a conversation involving Victor Hedman. - JuiceMcT83

I saw that, and thought "yeah right", but honestly, toss in a decent player instead of Gagner, and they'd have to think about it. I mean, they're getting a top pick, and maybe Ekblad anyway.
But they're a good team right now, I doubt they're looking for futures. So, you're right, it would never happen. - prock
Don't get me wrong, I like Hedman and all, but the oilers would be insane to trade our 1st + a player better than Gagner for Hedman.
I think Hall, Eberle or Nuge straight up equals Hedman, let alone the chance to draft a prospect that could be just as good as Hedman in a few years.
Then again, what you say about Tampa not looking for futures is absolutely correct. Chalk it up to a dumb rumour by Ek. |

Why would the Oilers be interested in Hainsey now - an impending 32 yr old UFA?
They can sign him in the summer for free if they want him

There are quite a few options between gagner and the guys you mention to add to the pick though. As I say strictly value wise, given its reinhart or ekblad probably, pretty equal ceilings to hedman. Given hedman is established And pretty damn good, you'd need to add more than gagner, who is near worthless.
The trade simply doesn't make sense for either team though. The oilers aren't gonna start packaging that up when they stand no chance this year, they'll just take ekblad. And the bolts have no interest in futures at the coat of hedman, as one of the top teams in the east.
As you say, makes no sense. |

How has everyone already forgot about the Oiler's blockbuster deal for Mark Fraser.... With that stallion they don't need anymore help on the back end |

By the time that the NHL resumes after the Olympic break Filppula and Stamkos will be back so there no need to add another center. The Lightning's only real need is a veteran back-up (because Lindback head just isn't right) and a solid veteran 6/7 defenseman. Hedman is easily a top 20 defenseman in the league and the Lightning would be all kinds of stupid to move him regardless of the offer. |

Dont say that in an avs blog. Some are expecting a bona fide #1 defenseman. - zdp1189
They told me the convo for ROR would just START with Myers and Moulson... perhaps Risto or Zadorov would have to be involved as well. |

Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun reported last night that before Buffalo hired Murray as GM that LaFontaine offered Miller to Anaheim for Gibson and their 1st.
that is the whole background of why Ek even wrote that... just taking stuff from other writers and trying to claim his source told him.

Hmm, interesting. Now that I look, maybe not. I assumed there would be.
Wow, the oilers really do have two tiers, good young players. And crap. Nothing in between.
Perron is one. Darnell nurse, but again that makes no sense on either side. Marincin? I don't know. |

At some point you have to figure that all that young talent will come together. There aren't many reasons to sign there, you're right. But its not unheard of. Its not like Justin Schultz was forced there.
And seriously, from a buffalo fan, there is a boatload of irony in that comment. All the same knocks on Edmonton apply to buffalo too. Bad team, crap city, etc. |

Should Colorado decide to field offers for O'Reilly, I think the Sabres would offer Ehrhoff plus a forward, and maybe a draft pick (we have three 2nds)
There would certainly be a bit of a bidding war, but I think Ehrhoff would be the best defenseman they'd be offered, so maybe we'd have a decent shot at getting him
I hope so anyways - jdfitz77
You're out of your mind:
Erhoff + a forward + a pick......for O Riley?
That deal would be a player for player swap....Maybe a 3rd or 4th thrown in. |

Sources say Thomas Vanek has turned down a substantial offer from the #Isles, who will likely move him by Mar. 5 deadline. Story to come. |

No, you're out of your mind. Why would the avs trade for a dman who is 31 years old and not better at all than RoR is at forward, but far younger? Buffalo would have to add to that significantly. As would any team dealing for RoR.
But they won't trade him. |

Who's sitting on a soapbox. Calling it like it is. A sabres Gan is in no position to be ripping on an Oilers fan. Do you seriously disagree with that? |

RoR isn't getting moved....
I was at the Sabres vs Avalanche game on Saturday.. he is a VERY IMPORTANT part of their team... no way do they move him.
Stastny is the only guy that I see getting moved from Colorado and even he has come out and said that he would take less to stay in Colorado. |

Don't get me wrong I like ORiley but this will be the first season he'll put up more than 20 goals so there's not too much of a precedent and no reason to overpay for 1 1/2 good seasons.....see Ville Leino. |
