They'd have to move somebody out, for sure. But IMO, Hainsey would be an upgrade on what they have out there now, and would probably be a good partner for Streit. - Jsaquella
I don't see it as a big upgrade, but it would give the Flyers more Cap flexibility for the off season. And increase their mobility and puck skills while losing some on the physical end. But it would help change the mix. |

The Sharks are a really deep team. When they get Hertl, Couture and Burish back, this team will be a really tough out in the playoffs. |

Grossmann for Hainsey?
The sad thing is if the Flyers had the cap space they could have signed him as a FA in early September. But because of Pronger's contract they had to wait until after training camp to sign an eighth defensemen - Hall Gill.

I would trade Grossmann for Hainsey in less than a heartbeat.
Hainsey is "softer" per se, but much more mobile and has a better first outlet pass. |

It's not so much the shots against (usually the losing team outshoots the winner), but 13 SOG is horrific. - bradleyc4
It's historic. Tied record for fewest SOG in team history & set record for fewest in a victory. |

It won the Devils 3 rings. They'd get outshot something like 33-12 and win 3-1. I'm not saying that should be the Flyers mentality (or that this team resembles those Devils teams), but it can be done. But yeah, that was a Steve Mason win. |

L.A. is really good defensive team. The Flyers got lucky to pot two and that the non-Columbus Steve Mason showed up. |

Those goals weren't really lucky. They were both the result of excellent passes.

Of the favorites to win the Cup this season, I would prefer it to be them or St Louis. I'm so sick of Boston, Pittsburgh, Chicago, and LA. |

If the flyers give up any prospects/picks for Ron freaking hainsey I'll be pissed. The young players ESP the forwards are the best players on the team and should be a good group for awhile. We need as many d prospects as possible - Just5
Would you rather:
A Hainsey
B Daley
C Buff
D Nonw of the Above. |

They also had great defenders and a great goaltender behind them. It was more about playing to their strengths. Today's game is also a much more open, speedy game. |

Have to be opportunistic against a team like LA. They just don't give up much defensively. |

Well Laughton's a bust (heck, he couldn't even captain Canada to a medal), Morin and his penchant for turning hockey sticks into javelins will have him suspended 900 games in the NHL, and Hagg was out for the WJC GWG against. So, really, we wouldn't be losing much.
Now, if we gave up Akeson on the other hand... - jmatchett383

The key is limiting the really good chances. The Devils gave up shots, but they rarely allowed teams to get really good chances and more importantly, they rarely gave teams quality second chance opportunities.
You might get a glorious scoring chance, but chances were you weren't getting to the rebound while Brodeur was sprawled out after making the first stop.
The Flyers did an OK job of limiting the Kings, but they still had a few sequences where Mason had to make a series of stops on scrambles and where the Kings had numerous chances on a single scoring opportunity. |

Well that's why I said this team doesn't resemble those teams. Just saying it can (probably) be done, but it does require a fantastic defense (led by players like Stevens, Danyko, and Niedermayer) and a HOF goalie as well as good 2-way players...which is not exactly the makeup of the current-day Flyers. |

Yeah, that first goal was a thing of beauty, though. Giroux made a great play and Vinny got everyone on the ice for the Kings to overcommit and then found Simmonds for the slam dunk. |

I think the important thing was they didn't allow any unstoppable shots. They gave a Mason a chance on every shot.
The Flyers had been allowing so many unstoppable chances. Mason is a good goalie. If you give him an opportunity, he will usually make the save. |

They've gotten better though. They used to be very reliant on their top line. They have a lot of secondary scoring when healthy. If Thornton has a bad series, it won't cripple the team the way it used to. |
